Re: Changing Denominations
Rhoni:
I walked out of church approximately 30 years ago ( an independent-AMF-) because Of a lot of what I perceived then as plain ole interfering church ladies, and when my husband left because he said he could not live 'that way' meaning Apostolic, my then pastor told me that my place was with my husband. That didn't happen. Anyway, I could never forget about God, and it was only His love, mercy and compassion that I am in church today (UPC) I still don't fit the 'mold' and some people in church openly tell me that I am doing everything wrong since I trim my hair and wear a little make-up, but now I'm like a duck--I let the remarks roll off my back. My pastor has never been negative toward me in any way. He's the greatest! He has said from the pulpit that he is not our police but our pastor. All I can say is that it is between me and God now. I don't worry about what others think of me.
From some of your posts, I have sensed a lot of hurt and anguish. Who am I to judge you? I have never walked in your shoes but I understand. I only wish you the best in whatever decision you make. Just never let go of His hand.

If you were to try and reach someone who is leaving your mothership.
Are you sure these comments are the Godly approach?
I don't think so...
Much of the UPCI that I have live for the past 40 plus year was cultish.
Plain and simple.
It was control through fear and pressure..
Which by the way tears down faith.
Since faith is personal and we are not called to fear.

Let's not play the role here. Roni has left years ago, but is not making an official statement. She has done so by publicly chastising a belief system many of us hold dear - on a forum where we all speak our opinions. Please notify me when this is a therapy session and not "contending" for the Gospel. Rhoni has hurt miles deep, and has been open about that. Meekness is not weakness. These "wish you all the best" and "you're still saved" remarks are more damnable than anything else. Love is not always a back rub and free massage. Sometimes it's (thanks John McCain) STRAIGHT TALK!

Excellent post! Words of wisdom.

Well maybe we need to do a better job because they can't explain Gen 1:2, which by the way is a Scripture a Trinitarian theologian would never use to explain the trinity.

I haven't read the entire thread, but I will say this. As long as you remain "A Christian" I can still call you "Sister", Sister. I kinda believe when you call yourself Christian, well, that makes you more Pentecostal/Apostolic than any of us. Including Dan A.

I don't see much wisdom in saying your Pastor says "don't do it" but you do it anyway and let it roll off your back like a duck. It's more like STUBBORN. I'm sorry, but these comments get high-fived way too easy. If you are going to do things your way, then find a church that will do it your way. (I'm sure your pastor is a patient man that loves you.. and his police remarks mean... there is still things we do/don't do, but I won't be handing out citations.)

I think I'll skip reading your posts since you are intent on broad generalization.

My comment was they could not sit under their own leadership.
Yet they expect others to follow them.
That goes for many more ministers than just the UPCI...
It goes for many business managers in the world today...

Re: Changing Denominations
There is a lot I could say but in all honesty I think it would be futile.
I have had 5 UPC Pastors & I can rightly say I have never felt abused nor felt that thier authority was misused against me & my family.
Sad.
