I agree that you absolutely have to establish yourself. However, I do feel like the climate now is more condusive to a third party major candidate than ever before.
We have seen third candidates in recent years be prominent enough that they are getting more support than traditionally.
People are increasingly turned off by the political games and the system...to the extent that the two most popular and galvanizing individuals in this election are embraced primarily because they are outsiders.
Modern media and the ability to mass communicate and galvanize people is unprecedented.
We have seen individuals like T. Boone Pickett become household names with a message.
Stew, in my mind there is a second reason beyond what has been said for not running a president without congressional support.
That being, what happens when you win? A president with no political allies is a man with 535 political enemies.
It would be a testcase for disaster.

That is true. It would be difficult to actually govern. I think that if you did have a popular President who was independent though, his best weapon would be transparency and accountability. Meaning that if he has the will and support of the people, he can cut across political lines and klet the people see who is not supportive of the policies and make those politicians have to answer to their consituents.
Without the traditional shield of partisanship to hide behind, I would force them to answer to their consituents why they blocked, worked against, or voted against any measure that would be in the best interest of the people. I think having the country overwhelmingly vote in a third party candidate would shake politicians at every level and cause them to realize that they cannot take their seats and the support of the people for granted.

I don't think that it exists, if the Clinton's didn't use it then it doesn't exist. They are the best at flinging dirt to destroy their opponents. IF THEY DIDN'T USE IT THEN THERE IS NO SUCH TAPE, NO ONE IS GOING TO STOP HILLARY TO GET TO THE WHITE HOUSE, IF SHE COULD HAVE USED THIS TAPE SHE WOULD HAVE.
Well, the Clinton lawyers filed the birth certificate lawsuit, didn't they?
And it still didn't do them any good.
I sure would like to know who everyone is voting for and what
party they are regristered with. Here's what I know or assume so
far:
VOting for McCain
Ferd -R
renda -R
DB _R
Pressing on -R
St Mark -D
Voting for Obama
Stew - D
Miekan - D
Determind - D
FYI,
I am a registered Republican and plan on voting for McCain.
So is my wife.
The problem is, we live in Ohio, and there have been thousands of bogus registrations/votes for Obama provided by ACORN so our vote will not have much of an affect.

Sam, just to be clear from someone on the ground in Ohio, you're saying that you believe there has been thousands of bogus registrations or bogus votes cast. There's a huge difference in the two.
