Tim, just a question if I may ask it of you.
I am not looking for a fight, just your opinion, whether we agree or not, you do have a unique perspective.
What do they need to be doing then in your opinion?

Tim will answer for himself, but my answer is more preaching like today's sermon!

While I would agree with Tim, I might add that "pep rallies" where what we were looking for back in the day.
You know, the old "Strength in numbers" concept, because the way we were raised we always felt like we were the only ones in the world who were saved, or had to live the way we lived.
So, it was always nice to go to a "commune" where there were hundreds, if not thousands, more who looked like us, dressed like us, acted like us, etc.......and have an energetic preacher tell us that we were doing the right thing!
In my opinion, this is the purpose of corporate meetings - affirmation.

Is this a bad thing?
Do not we all do this in whatever Organization we are in?
Like seeks out like?
I agree, at one time I did believe that if you weren't UPC, you are not going to heaven-I don't anymore.
I do love the UPC for all it's faults, I was saved at a UPC Church.
A question, can "pep rallies" & "exhortation" to continue in the faith be sometimes seen as the same thing?

I don't think it's a bad thing at all, really. I mean, when you are a member of a church of (20), with no music, and no youth, to speak of, it's an awesome thing to pile into a tabernacle of thousands, with the music playing, the corporate worship rising to the rafters, etc. It definitely gives your spirit a lift!
That's why I said that while I agree with Tim about the "pep rally" reference, I don't think it's a bad thing to have pep rallies.
I don't necessarily go to camp meeting to hear standards preached (and it drives me nuts when I do), or to hear great revelation, I would go to hear a faith building message, the affirmation that I'm in the right church, doing the right thing.

No, on the last question Ron. We are a new generation where it is a pep rally if it isn't preached like you want it preached. You know, no more we are a great org because (fill in the blank). And THIS is how it should be: We are great as long as we are not preaching what that org preaches.
