Well, only if you drop the "O" -- then you have either fat-lighter or one sad dude.

Sorry for the title, but I am finding that around here, the book is judged by the cover, or the title of the thread in terms of participation...plus, there was context to it based on my experience in another area.
I am not against a preacher/pastor/evangelist, etc. making a living, like I said, we all have bills to pay.
What I am wondering about is if an evangelist HAS to receive his fee in order to "hear from God" for a particular church.
We have all heard the evangelist come in and prophesy that, "this church will see the greatest move of God in the next X months!" or "I have a burden for this church, or a word from God for this church." IF he was not willing to come and preach for anything less than an outrageous amount.
Someone mentioned TD Jakes and his fee. Again, I am not sure how much is too much, but wow, sometimes it can be a sin!
Is the name worth more than bringing a word from the Lord to a particular congregation?
This is not unique to the Apostolic church of course, but really it should be the only one you are concerned about.

I am in agreement with Carp on this. Jesus said "freely ye have received freely give." God pays well have faith in Him.

I agreed with you,Carp ... and now so has Elder Epley ... question is whether you will be labeled a critic of the Gospel and pariah to all that is holy and true.

Carp, if you have a word from God, then money should be no object. God will provide.
I understand that evangelists need money to live and we pay our evangelists well, I DO NOT agree that the amount must be set, though. We have a small church and probably could not afford to have an evangelist through here if that the deal.
I feel that the larger churches should pay more, because, duh, they are larger and can afford to, but I also feel that if you have an evangelist, you need to make sure and take care of them as absolutely best as you can. You are not "paying the evangelist ( or preacher or pastor for that matter) you are reflecting how you feel about God in the payment.
That's my opinion.

I always make it a point to discuss finances up front, before a date is set.
I felt like I was burned once by a preacher who lived less than thirty minutes away. At the end of four services, he said he received $500 per service. Mind you, he works full time as well.
I sure did hate to disappoint him.....
