Christians and Cremation What think Ye?

Should Christians be cremated or no?

This is an interesting question to me. I really think it doesn't matter as to the body once the soul has left it. But what is your take on this?

1 Cor 13:3
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
KJV

Cremation evidently has been around a long time.

Maybe the poor couldn't properly be buried in Paul's Day and cremation was the only option?

Only pagans used it.
I don't feel comfortable with it.
They burned Sauls body.

The giving of the body to be burned in my opinion speaks of martyrdom.

With so many scandals lately concerning the funeral business, anything dealing with funeral homes needs to be thought out with many reputable references and then you never really know.

The crematorium might dump the body in the woods or stack it in a back room and give you family a box of dirt.

And funeral homes have been found to switch out caskets.

That type of possibility is always there as long as people are involved.

Also... concerning Ron's post...

Quote:
Gen 18:27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which [am but] dust and ashes:
Whether ashes to ashes or dust to dust... we all return from whence we came.

I would have more problem with (on a personal level... not saying it is wrong or anything) people who buy these fancy air tight caskets than I would cremation. You don't want to know what happens to the human body when it is sealed off from the natural process.

Amen.

I don't think that it is worse than say a auto dealer selling a "total out" car with another title, but because death is such a mystery and because religion as a whole is involved it just seems more reprehensible and less forgiving.

A Cremation costs $7000 and a funeral is $12000-$15000.

Seems I could use the Insurance Proceeds in better ways than a gardener.... My wife and I have agreed if the other leaves first- cremation is our wish.

There are such a high level of emotions involved.

Ditto It is not sin - but the roots and history of cremation are pagan.
