Happy 25th, NY Metro District!!!
The NYMD grew out of the New York State District, 25 years ago... where the honorable DS David Robinson presided for many years ... and as their district conference begins tonight, with Kenneth Haney as the keynote speaker and HQ rep, I want to wish them a happy 25th!!!
Under the leadership of Jack Yonts, at its genesis ... then Scotty Teets ... then Robert S. Carter and now perhaps the first and only man of color to head a UPCI district, Arthur Thomas (of Jamaican heritage)
NYMD remains an enigma among the districts of the mothership in its heterogeneous and diverse makeup. At one time, and perhaps today, it had as many white, Hispanic and black churches.
Like all new districts, and old, there has been growing pains, ups and downs, times of discord and plenty of politics ... but overall God has blessed its churches, showing them favor in the largest metropolitan area in America.
Thank you also, for the gesture of honoring my dad, tonight, and his labor in this district as presbyter and presiding leader of its Spanish churches.
