I agree, trying to get uniformity of opinion within "the Church" on this issue isn't going to be helpful in the end. We should aid those who are in distress while also observing the laws of the state as long as those laws don't conflict with our worship and service to Jesus Christ.
But, we obviously can't house everyone who wants to come to America. The weight of the mass of human beings all in one place would probably cause sea levels to rise.
So, we have to look for ways to promote justice and freedom abroad if we really want to help these folks. By allowing Mexico to drive its "surplus population" north we have actually been delaying a much needed revolution in that country.
What if everyone of Mexican descent within the past 3 generations was still living in Mexico and demanding the same services, same education, same job opportunities and the same political freedoms that they are demanding here?
Mexico would be a lot better place to live.
