A diverse group of Christian leaders is calling for an immigration reform policy that offers a legal path to citizenship but does not promote amnesty.

I don't think we need one unified stance.

But as believers, I think we should think as those whose borders extend to heaven first. Seeing others fleeing oppression as humans with the imprimatur of the Imago Dei upon them. Secondly, as a member of a political state, we should seek a resolution that helps protect the state's borders and resolves this situation. In that order.

Must say I'm proud that Pentecostal/Charismatics are on this side of the bill.

I'm not opposed to amnesty. Though I'd like to hear more about their suggestions and how it would all work.

Good article. Thanks for sharing!

I agree, trying to get uniformity of opinion within "the Church" on this issue isn't going to be helpful in the end. We should aid those who are in distress while also observing the laws of the state as long as those laws don't conflict with our worship and service to Jesus Christ.

But, we obviously can't house everyone who wants to come to America. The weight of the mass of human beings all in one place would probably cause sea levels to rise.

So, we have to look for ways to promote justice and freedom abroad if we really want to help these folks. By allowing Mexico to drive its "surplus population" north we have actually been delaying a much needed revolution in that country.

What if everyone of Mexican descent within the past 3 generations was still living in Mexico and demanding the same services, same education, same job opportunities and the same political freedoms that they are demanding here?

Mexico would be a lot better place to live.

I tend to agree but lets not just make that Mexico. It's some others who are taking over most of our businesses here. Mexicans are not the ones who get pushed out of shape because we have a day of prayer. As a general rule it's not the hard working Mexicans who are demanding all these things.

One Mexican AOG pastor isn't plural.

I was also looking at the causes of the migration. I have friends who live along the Gulf and have good jobs in government and the oil industry. Their family pics on Facebook makes it look like they're on a tropical cruise vacation 365 days a year. They live in "paradise."

Yet they frequently bring up how much they miss living in the US where she cleaned houses and he worked in a pizza kitchen. They'd really love to come back here. What gives? I just paid several thousand dollars to take my wife and kids on vacation there!

The sad truth is, Mexico is a mess. What if instead of marching on American streets making demands against imaginary "oppression" - the current generation of "immigrants" were marching on the streets of Mexico and demanding real reform and the abolition of real oppression?

I think you missed my point. I agree with you. I know about the living conditions in Mexico. I help support a work in Ensenana and was down there last year. It is heart breaking, especially the children. Again it's not the hard working Mexican who comes over here who complains, it's those who are too lazy to work that makes demands. I have two grandchildren who are half Mexican. My son in law is educated and a hard working head engineer working for the Army core of Engineers in Germany. Those who are here legally have every right to be here. My family hasn't always been here. We didn't make here from England it until around 1700.
