Re: Pentecost Needs Paul Reveres ...

I agree with some of the posters here that Pentecost is alive and well and already has a multitude of "Paul Revere's!" My pastor, one of the many! I thank God for them.

They indeed do cry aloud and warn of the many false prophets that are among us......and for the record, I do NOT believe Bro LS to be one of those that are false. I greatly admire this Man of God as do countless others.

In political jargon, the term useful idiot was used to describe Soviet sympathizers in Western countries and the attitude of the Soviet government towards them. The implication was that though the person in question naïvely thought themselves an ally of the Soviets or other Communists, they were actually held in contempt by them, and were being cynically used.

The term is now used more broadly to describe someone who is perceived to be manipulated by a political movement, terrorist group, hostile government, or business, whether or not the group is Communist in nature.

The term is commonly attributed to Lenin, sometimes in the form "useful idiots of the West", to describe those Western reporters and travelers who would endorse the Soviet Union and its policies in the West. In fact, the earliest known usage is in a 1948 New York Times article on Italian politics. In 1987, Grant Harris, senior reference librarian at the Library of Congress, said "We have not been able to identify this phrase [useful idiots of the West] among [Lenin's] published works.

Barb. Great question!
Trinitarians, Modalist, Arians, Prosperity teaching... at what point is it "false doctrine" and "apostate?"

I think we must look at what "false doctrine" was in Paul's day. These people weren't just fussing over his eternal godhead -- they were, in gnostic tradition, questioning the flesh of Jesus (was he fully man). Additionally, the false teachers were those in Jude AND those in Galatia (extremes).

How "off" does a teaching that is presented as doctrine have to be before it is considered false doctrine?
The obvious answer is that if a doctrine is false it is false doctrine. If it is true it is the truth.
