Arrogance
Religious Arrogance always makes me sick at my stomach. Someone was talking to me yesterday how they were sitting in a place eating and some "other" Apostolics came in and looked at them as if they were second class citizens.
I have always wondered how can we all say we are going to the same city and be cruel to each other?

Re: Arrogance
I have had that happen when I lived in another state and city.
Members of a certain church were taught not to associate with other pentecostal that do not go to their church.
I remember running into them at costco, one looked me from head to toe and then kept walking. I felt like dirt.
Oh well, I realized it was something they were taught.

Re: Arrogance
Those kind of people will have aquite a surprize when and if they get to heaven...for the kingdom of God is made up by people like us...the blood washed...the poor in spirit...
We are graced with His beauty and made into His likness...How do we know what is likeness is? He preached to a woman, held a child on his lap, ate at a tax collectors home that betrayed his own people...
Washed the feet of His disciples and was moved with compassion upon the mulitudes.
He shared a boy´s lunch, taught fishermen how to fish, climbed a mountain...
Jesus was different than the Torah quoting men on the corners for from Him flowed Living waters...not stale bread from bygone days.

Re: Arrogance
Could it be that this was their curiosity at work? I have seen others that looked "apostolic" and not gone over to inquire if they were or not. Unless I actually recognize them from anther church then I might not walk up to a total stranger and blurt out "are you Apostolic tooooo?"
and the reason is I have done that before and often the person was very startled that a stranger would walk up to them like that.
On another occasion the person was NOT Apostolic at all and was very annoyed that I asked if they were.

- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

It isn't so much rather you ask them what church they attend or what the believe theologically. It is the spirit in which you greet each other. I may not walk up to them and ask them where they go to church but I will always smile and say God Bless you. If they want more conversation then they can reply.
I have been the object of some of those holier than thou looks.
We sat one table over from a group that was Pentecostal and got snubbed. Not just odd looks. We spoke, politely, and they looked at us and turned their heads without even speaking.

Re: Arrogance
Through the years I have seen this as a common practice among Apostolics...and it has always amazed me.

No, it's not my spirit either. I can just as well and say "God bless you" and they are still wondering why this stranger they don't know is saying that to them.
Im sure there are situations where they were snubbing someone but I don't think it is always the case. BTW how did you know they were Pentecostals?
I got the same treatment more or less from folks that were NOT Pentecostals but "looked" Pentecostal.
You know there are baptist, ana-baptist and even Nazarines that pass for Oneness Pentecostals?

I had visited the church they attend and had seen them there before. No I did not know them but I had seen them when visiting. That is how. I have never had anyone looked oddly at me for saying God Bless you. That is my experience.
I have asked a few people what church they attend before and been surprised. One lady was Nazarene and another was Branhamite. But even they did not look oddly at me. They were nice and polite. They spoke of their church.
Had one instance when I asked a lady if she was Apostolic and she said, "No, I am Pentecostal" and acted so nasty. I decided to be rotten and I said, "That is to bad. I really thought you were Apostolic. The Pentecostals all seem to be so messed up with their affairs and problems."
She looked at me real surprised like and then said, "well not that there is much difference"
I do get these moments that hit me and I simply am to weak to refuse being bad.
=)
