Hurricane Gustav
I am asking my friends on AFF to pray that this storm does not do the damage that Katrina did to our state. As many of you know, I live in Louisiana. It looks like we may have a repeat of Katrina in 2005. We have been watching the storm for the past couple of days. I have already been in contact with our relatives in New Orleans and most are already preparing to leave. We happen to be in Shreveport right now and plan to ride out the storm up here. During Katrina, we had our relatives, my aunt and uncle with their 2 dogs, come and stay with us to ride out the storm. What we did not count on, was my uncle's invalid mother, his two chemically dependent brothers, and a stripper girlfriend. The other thing that no one counted on, was that they would be staying with us for 6 weeks. It did make for some interesting times and we had many stories to tell. My aunt and uncle were fortunate that their house was not affected. His mother lost her house and my aunt's daughter lost her house. Both of which have been rebuilt. I will try to keep you up to date on the happenings, as we plan to go back home as soon as the storm passes.

Re: Hurricane Gustav
I hope it doesn't get bad cause these storms affect my part of AL. and most of the time I don't have extra money to prepare and buy supplies.

Re: Hurricane Gustav
I'm already praying my friends......our family lives in the projected path also. Most of the affected areas of Katrina have just now begun to make a little headway into repairs done from that storm. I dread to think of another storm of that magnitude tearing through again.

Re: Hurricane Gustav
My sister and her family live in Sulphur, and she said they may have to evacuate later this week. We'll see what happens, I guess....

Re: Hurricane Gustav
Hopefully, there's a better plan for evacuation this time.

Re: Hurricane Gustav
I agree. I talked to my niece who lives in NO. She said things are wild in New Orleans already. People are already buying up all the water, batteries and other supplies. I don't know if New Orleans could recover from another hit right now.

Re: Hurricane Gustav
Our Governor seems to be on top of things. He has already called a "state of emergency" and could start evacuations by Saturday.

Re: Hurricane Gustav
My oldest son works offshore on an oil rig in the Gulf right out of the New Orleans area. He called a couple of days ago and said that if the storm kept tracking along the anticipated path they would be evacuating the rigs in the Gulf this weekend. I think his rig is about 50 miles offshore.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Hurricane Gustav
I think they learned their lessons of the cost of inaction from Katrina.
