Idiotic City Workers
Grrrrrrr! I am fuming mad. For the past week these guys have dug up the place around the corner. Twice now, just before I am getting ready to go to Dialysis they shut the water off!
Im about to get into the shower and no water...nothing. Can't wash my hands. Can't brush my teeth...can't do anything. Now...mind you..it would NOT be a problem if they actually let us know what time they were going to do this.

Contact the water department and explain your situation. Whether there is some sort of legal obligation to inform the residents that they're shutting off the water, I don't know.

I understand the frustration... they do that here in the spring/summer/fall with our electricity. No warning at all-- just all of a sudden no electricity because they have chosen to take a day to clear branches from around power lines, etc...
So far, we haven't had that problem with the water company... the main problem we have with them is the nasty brown water we get when they decide to flush the system and open the fire hydrants for a few hours. Notice on this would be nice... because the junk that comes through the pipes when they do this RUINS laundry. Nothing will get out the RED/BROWN junk. No matter HOW many times people call and complain about this, they STILL give us no notice. Too bad there isn't some way to force them to pay for the replacement of the laundry that gets ruined on those days. All it would take would be for them to add a little note to the bills that say Flushing lines (and give dates) We could all avoid doing laundry on those two days each month. But it's never on a schedule. I can't remember them doing it on the same days two months in a row.
I'm through complaining now.

Actually, my husband is a civil engineer and has also in the past worked for our local water department. The answer is "no" there is no legal obligation to inform residents that they're shutting off the water. In our town, if they know ahead of time that they'll be shutting off the water or flushing the hydrants, they try to publish it in the local paper (which comes out once a week) or attach a note to water bills. But sometimes things happen like a water main bursting a hole. When those kinds of emergency situations happen, they do not have to go door-to-door to let folks know what's going on.
I know it's annoying, but sometimes it just has to be. I feel for ya, Prax.

don't you know they do that just to annoy YOU, as soon as you leave they turn the water back on, and point at you and laugh as you drive off grumbling.

I don't think this is an accident though, they are doing work and this has happened a number of times since they were doing the work. And unfortunately we don't get or read the paper
