How do you tell if someone loves the Lord?

In today's world you hear the statement "He or she really loves the Lord" Look what they are doing for God. The question that I have is do they really love the Lord? Is there someway to know if this love is real?

I read a story in my local news paper about a missionary to Brazil last week and after reading it I said wow this woman was something else. At a very young age she left her home to go to Brazil. (sacrifice) In Brazil she began telling the story of Jesus to people that had never heard of Jesus. She change the way these people lived. Every thing she did was for the people. She even gave up her life (death) for these people.
After reading this I thought did this woman Love God, then scriptures began to flood my mind.
The only way one can know if a person loves God is to see if that person lines up with the word of God. Please I am not talking about standards.

Does this person follow all that God has commanded.

When Peter entered Cornelius house, Cornelius said "tell me all that God has commanded" When Peter heard this statement he began to tell all the house the story of the life and death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ when the Holy Ghost fell on all that were in the house. When this happened Peter then baptised all the house in Jesus name. When the Holy Ghost came on Cornelius he did not refuse the name of Jesus in baptism.
Cornelius truly loved the Lord.

The scripture says:
1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1 John 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

The missionary to Brazil that I read about was a Catholic nun. She did not tell the people all that God had commanded.

Those of use who believe and follow what Peter said on the day of Pentecost will say no the definition of love according to the word of God was not in this woman.

What about those people that God has given them the Holy Ghost but they continue to preach and teach a doctrine other that what Peter preached. I can see no difference between this missionary and some one that refuses to preach the truth after God has given them his precious Spirit.

Paul said:
[Gal 1:6] I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
[Gal 1:7] Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
[Gal 1:8] But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
[Gal 1:9] As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
It would seem the bible definition of Love is far different than that of man.

Jesus words on the subject:

Quote:
John 14:15 (KJV) 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Quote:
John 15:10 - 14 (KJV) 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

What does Matt 7:16 say? I know that it isn't possible to know someone's heart like God can, but maybe we can get an idea about someone by the way they act. jmo.

I am so glad that the Apostle Paul captured the heart of God in regards to keeping ALL the commandments of God.

"Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:8-10)

Sounds to me as if that Catholic nun was into loving her neighbors!

[Rom 10:4] For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Are you suggesting that this lady did what she did without any love for God and that she did not believe in Jesus Christ?
