When the Church gets *Stars* in it's Eyes..

What is it about Celebrity and the Church.. It seems that we too are starstruck at times....

Recently I was talking with a friend who attends a church and they couldn't talk enough about some recent *Stars* their pastor had met....and how the *star* would be coming to their church and so on and so on and so on add nausea.... it seems to be an elevated Saint status...

Public Office to gets Pulpit time and most times a seat...

anybody else notice this??

James did....

Jam 2:1 ¶ My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, [the Lord] of glory, with respect of persons.

Jam 2:2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

Jam 2:3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

Jam 2:4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

Jam 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Jam 2:6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

Jam 2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

Jam 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

Jam 2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

Jam 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one [point], he is guilty of all.

Yes, I've noticed. When we all reach star status in each other's eyes, we'll turn our world upside down. No big I's or little you's...all stars in His kingdom working together.

Did you have her greet the crowd and sit on the platform?

A few thots here........

Do you think this is something peculiar to apostolics or do other denominations/groups do the same thing? I think they probably do because people are people and this is part of what people do in my experience.

Having said that I think that the UPC in general is very taken with those of celebrity status -- including their own and that there's a real tendency to put people on pedestals overall.

I think in any group it's kind of inherent to recognize talent, ability, charisma and to look at famous people or people of position and celebrity status with *starry* eyes. Truth is they're no different than you and I.

Not saying it isn't good to recognize people and give honour where honour is do and all that but oftentimes what happens goes beyond that.

I think too that part of the reason why apostolics might have more of a tendency to do this is because in the past and to some extent yet still we've had bit of an inferiority complex i.e. "nobody wants what we have .... other side of the tracks ........ "peculiar" people isolated and separated not only from the world but from the denominational pentecostal world" as well.
