Without Holiness . . .

Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord

Rom_12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

1Pe_1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pe_1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

What does it mean to be holy ? What does it mean to live holy ?

I just read a statement that said " Treating people right IS what "Holiness" actually means."

I myself do know that you must treat people right . . but there is so much more to "Holiness" than that. That is a very narrow view on Holiness.

Holiness is being set apart for God, consecrated . . living by God's standard, what is God's standard . . . separated from the world.

Does anyone care to weigh in on this matter?

What does it mean to be holy ? What does it mean to live holy ?

Re: Without Holiness . . .

Holiness truly is consecration to God outwardly, but I think that we must first make the inside of the cup clean or we will just become another empty religion. Unfortunately, some make it all inward and there is a downplay on outward standards for holiness. I think that the work that Jesus does on the inside should be reflected on the outside.

I fear that we(most Christianity) are lacking holiness in today's world. There is all kinds of things I could list of what I feel are standards of holiness, but we all will probably have different opinions. We should all search the scriptures and find God given principles and apply them to our lives. I firmly believe that the Holy Ghost will lead us and guide us in truth.

I feel another thing we lack on is there is a lack of commitment to the ministry that God has established. I believe we each need to be connected to the body of Christ. We shouldn't be isolated Christians following our own interpretations of Gods' word and without any outside instruction. I believe through the power of the Holy Ghost and the working of His ministry we go through a perfecting process until our Lords' return.

I just preached on this scripture tonight......in the county jail. Yes I believe God is able even to save those men and produce holiness in them.

Re: Without Holiness . . .

It is amazing to see alcoholics, drug addicts, pimps, prostitutes, etc. give their hearts to God and see the night and day difference God makes in them. God makes us holy and we can't achieve it on our own. By some peoples background it just shows how amazing God is. Good job working in that ministry, many don't want to go to them places, but many find Jesus through people like you.

Re: Without Holiness . . .

Holiness is the perfumed life of a believer unto the Lord. It is where the Holy Spirit has done such a work in your life that the sin you once loved you now hate. It is walking in daily and continual repentance from sin, self, and the things that nailed Christ to the Cross. It is a life transformed on the inside that contains an outward testimony before God and man, for the glory of God alone. It is not in us sinless perfection, but is the evidence of the continual working of God through His Spirit and His Word that we are striving against sin and carnality, and all from God and to His glory alone.

Re: Without Holiness . . .

Just a personal definition:

Dedicated to God for the purposes of divine consumption.

True holiness will end a person's life (figuratively, but also possibly literally) in service to God. He will use a holy person until he or she can't be used anymore. Then it's reward time in glory.

When the self is completed destroyed, and only God's will remains, one has become holy. Jesus proves this beyond any shadow of doubt.

Re: Without Holiness . . .

I think one of the most beautiful passages about holiness can be found in II Peter. The word "holiness" is not mentioned per se, but the passage speaks of what holiness results in the life of a disciple.

Holiness in the life of a believer will be manifested in this way:

II Peter 1:3-4 "According as his divine power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."

Holiness essentially is when a disciple of Christ is able to partake of the divine nature of Christ, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust, being called to glory and virtue according as his divine power has given us all things that pertain unto life and godliness.

Re: Without Holiness . . .

Holiness is being set apart to Gods purposes. When we set ourselves apart to his will BY THE SPIRIT of course, we are a holy people. This is done by faith. That's our part. To accept the word of truth and walk in it.

The Holy Spirit makes us holy and makes us spiritual.

Sinless perfection is taught everywhere you look in the Bible.

Being perfect before God, being without sin is Gods plan and purpose for every believer.

Re: Without Holiness . . .

If we are to be partakers of the divine nature, as II Peter 1 says, there cannot be two natures at work. One must die, so that the other can live. If we realize that our self-will, our self nature must die, and the nature of Christ must be the one we live by, then holiness in all manner of living will be the natural result of such a decision.
