By teaming up in caucus states they can deny Santorum delegates. It's tricky and even dirty, but it's the nature of politics. I have no illusion... I know if things were reversed other candidates would likely do the same.
I see what you are saying. It's just that the news has talked about how Paul didn't hit Romney as hard in the debates because he had a backroom deal going. Rand denies it, but it looks fishy.

I don't think anyone should drop out. I want them to deny Romney the 1,114 delegates he needs. The reason I want this to happen is that voting is down in the primaries and Romney may be winning, but he isn't winning by a landslide. If he was doing so well, nothing any candidate was doing would stop him from, handily, getting to his goal. He isn't doing that well.

“There’s simply not a real broad-based candidate that appeals to everybody in the party,” he says. “The longer this goes on with Romney winning small states big, but winning just 30 or 35 percent in other states—that’s not a mandate. They’re arguing: ‘Let’s accept inevi–tability.’ That’s not happening.”

This is what I'd like to see happen:
Quote:
“If Romney doesn’t get 1,144 [delegates] and would go into the convention without a majority, I think then there’s a period of negotiation before Tampa where Romney approaches Santorum and Gingrich and Paul and negotiates for delegates. If they don’t agree to help him, and he doesn’t win on the first ballot—most delegates are released after the first ballot, and it’d be wide open

One reason I take the delegate count with a grain of salt.

The G.O.P.’s Fuzzy Delegate Math

Contributing to the confusion is that there are a series of three interrelated ideas about delegates which are often treated as interchangeable, even though they are not:

Bound vs. Unbound Delegates

Pledged vs. Unpledged Delegates

Elected vs. Selected Delegates

Hoovie,
Had this sent my way. Thought you might be interested.

Reality Check: North Dakota Caucus "railroaded" to give majority of delegates to Romney?

Very similar thing will happen in MO I think... Our first delegate meeting is next week.

You can add all of these other states in as well. We can also see why Santorum made the comment he did about there not being much difference between Romney and Obama. I have said that all along.

Mitt's Nomination Manipulation

Conclusion: A Disturbing Trend

So, how many states has Mitt Romney won where there has not been any questionable activity or overt influence by his campaign? Just one – Washington. Not mentioned above is Arizona, but it helped make a mess of the calendar, too, by holding its contest before March 1st.

Many political pundits have openly discussed how damaging the protracted nomination process has been for the Republican Party and its eventual nominee. What they have ignored is the win at all cost tactics that have been employed by the Romney campaign. It’s always difficult to unite a party after a contentious primary fight, but doing so after what some may view as an unfair fight will be even more difficult.
