blume videos/fasting
blume, i watched one of your videos today for the first time. i can honestly say, i was truly blessed. you were just as good as mike bickle in my opinion, but with more truth. i have to watch a few more, but the video on soul and spirit was pretty deep. i love that subject.
you mentioned that the spirit was in the belly and christ said out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water. the thought occured to me of the relationship of fasting to living in the spirit or being in the spirit. i understand that fasting denies the flesh and soul, but do you think there may be a deeper correlation between fasting and communing with the spirit? why does fasting work and what is the power of fasting?

Re: blume videos/fasting
Mike, I watched "What is the kingdom about and how do we operate in it" and I didn't see a link for sermon notes. I really liked that sermon. are there notes for it or just some sermons?

Re: blume videos/fasting
Hi DM,
Wow, I am humbled.
I can send you the notes. It seemed folks were not using them so I stopped posting them. But I am putting them on my sermons site in my person page here:
http://mikeblume.com/sermons.htm
I have to catch up with the latest there, though.
HERE ARE THE NOTES YOU REQUESTED: http://mikeblume.com/jul0311.htm
Regarding, the spirit and belly, I was not saying the spirit is physically in the belly, but is called the belly in prophecy. But seeing the BELLY is a picture of the spirit, fasting would really indeed be involved. Good thought! Praise God!

Re: blume videos/fasting
I believe fasting works because the number one desire of flesh is FOOD. Try to pray after a huge meal. It is HARD!! When we deny the flesh of its number one desire, the flesh literally weakens. I recall fasting when after two days I can immediately get in the Spirit. Boom! I felt such a strong presence of God! So, with focus on our spirits, as prayer exercises our spirits, and letting the body lose what it desires most, our spirits become "uncluttered" with fleshliness, and they are so sensitive! Imagine what it would be like leaving our bodies with NO hindrances the flesh throws in our spirits' ways whatsoever! Fasting gets us as close to that as possible.

Re: blume videos/fasting
mike, i've listened to 3 sermons so far. i heard you quote hebrews 5:14 more than once. i believe you said that it refers to exercising our spirit. do you believe the word "senses" refers to spirit? strongs says judgement.
14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Yes, I believe it is judgment that is part of our spirits. Our spirits have the sense of judgment as to what is actual in the spiritual realm, since our human spirits are the only parts of us that can relate to the spiritual realm. And Hebrews is speaking of spiritual things.

Re: blume videos/fasting
mike, just saw revelation of the kingdom video. good stuff. i always had trouble with matthew 7 and asked who is referred to when it says lord lord, depart from me you workers of iniquity. now i understand it to refer to carnal christians who haven't denied themselves and taken up the cross. thanks for a great sermon.

Personally, it depends by what you mean by "carnal Christians." I don't believe the people in that passage were EVER saved because Jesus says "I NEVER knew you." God knowing a person in many NT passages has association with salvation. If by "carnal Christian" you mean someone who does not have a true profession of faith then I agree
