Alcohol

I'm sure it's been debated here before but i'm curious. How do you all feel about it. Complete liberty to do as you wish, moderation, or complete abstinence?

well, most of the time i go for complete abstinence, but, i will have an occasional glass of red wine, and i mean like maybe twice a year on a special occasion if we are eating out.

I think that alcohol is dangerous though, people don't know if they are prone to becoming an alcoholic. In my opinion, its every bit as dangerous as smoking pot, or snorting coke under the "right" conditions.

its just a legal, versus an illegal drug. both alcohol and pot should either be legal or illegal, there isn't much difference in the destruction they can wreak.

that being said, even if pot was legal, i still would not partake of it. I think because one glass of wine doesnt really alter me, but one joint would deffinately alter me.

not a real black/white position i know . . .

Yeah, we have discussed it a few times but that's alright. Most topics make their rounds about once a year.

Moderation is Biblical in most things including alcohol.

I would be fine with displaying and using in wine/alcohol in moderation. I have had wine for communion on occasion as well.

That being said, my wife was raised a teetotaler and she does not appreciate wine bottles displayed alongside the bran cereal... I have learned to respect that and don't keep any alcohol in our home except cooking wines.

No keg parties with the family though!

your cooking wine is just bad wine that they would not sell otherwise with salt added to them and then a higher price charged for a smaller amount. You would be better off just not using it at all if you are going to respect your wife's feelings about this or get it through her head that there is nothing wrong with the real thing. jmho. I am NOT an advocate of cooking wines because they are such bad wines.

As for me, I have no problem with anyone drinking alcohol as long as they do it in moderation. If you can not be moderate with it then you probably shouldn't do it.

There was a place in my life when I had it as I wished...

Then came moderation then came complete abstinence..

complete abstinence is the best..

I know and agree.

However, I am not on any mission to get things through my spouse's head. LOL!

I value peace.

Complete abstinence.
Too dangerous to fool with something
that can alter my thinking.
Some can try for moderation,
but, if they really like the taste of
the stuff, it won't be moderate for long.

Do you think Jesus ran into that argument in his day?

What has changed? Are there more alcoholics today than in His day?

Re: Alcohol

I am not so sure it's a question of "taste" that creates alcoholics.

Nor is the the taste of burgers that creates gluttons.

Rather it speaks more of a lack of temperance and self control.
