Neither Hot Nor Cold

You know how like in revelation God is telling the church because they are lukewarm He's gonna spit them out? An you know how everyone says that means God wants you to be either for Him or against Him?

I heard a guy on the radio and he was like this scripture has been horribly mis-interpreted. It goes back to context. He called it "cultural context."

In short, his point was this:

Cold water rejuvinates and refreshes you on a hot day
Hot water soothes aches and pains (hot cocoa warms your insides)

Lukewarm water does not refresh or soothe.

Therefore what God is saying is, "You are neither refreshing nor soothing, so I'm gonna spit you out."

Question: Why would God want anyone to be against Him? The whole point of sending Christ was to save the world not make enemies.

I like this guy's argument. Makes a lot more sense.

Re: Neither Hot Nor Cold

I'll also go on to say this: I've heard it preached that "walking the fence" is a dangerous thing to do since one foot is on one side and the other is on the other side, and that would be considered lukewarm.

Not for me. Walking the fence, for one, doesn't mean I've got one foot on either side of the fence in the context of playing dangerously with the world but still shouting on Sunday. I like to look at it this way: I walk the fence, or in the middle of the road, to keep either extremes from pulling me to their side. There's less finger-pointing taking place when it comes to spiritual/world matters.

Just speaking from observation and experience and not necessarily knocking one or the other. But, it has made a difference for the better...

Very good point!

I know! It was so cool to hear it explained that way.
