What Can We Learn From Dr. James Kennedy Before GC

http://65.240.226.104:8080/default.aspx?s=1

Click the above link to the answer to this thread.

As many of you have heard, Dr. James Kennedy passed away this month, but what many may not have known was how his church became the fastest growing Presbyterian church in the world.

One interesting fact that I would share with you, he started his ministry in North Ft. Lauderdale in a missions church that met in a public school with only 45 in attendance. Before too long, that number dwindled down to around 17; however, the ministry from that church would soon have a presence in 220 countries in the world. This was the first ministry to accomplish such a goal and it was done well before anyone ever heard of TBN.

The attached link outlines the vision that Dr. Kennedy held until his last days of ministry, which initially mirrored much of our current outreach tools that the UPCI has had in operation for many, many years. I shared this with you all for it truly was an inspiration to hear the Life & Legacy of this fine man. Once you click on the link, chose the Life & Legacy link on the page to watch a short video, which is only around 15 minutes in its entirety.

Additionally, I would like to ask the members of AFF to pray for our leadership and especially those that will be casting their votes on the resolutions that affect our organization during the General Conference. Let's pray that God's perfect will be done and that the divisiveness that has been so prevalent leading up to this meeting would be replaced with a renewed spirit of unity.

I knew while reading your post that it was clearly written TIC. I would suppose that there would be many who would ignore a "business" platform with proven success based solely on the evidence that he was a Trinitarian. I posted this thread hoping that there were still many who could see that the world around has changed drastically even in the last ten years and we should be looking for ways to advance our strategies of evangelism and not allow them to become relics of yesterday.

I have read some opinions that door knocking was still an effective outreach tool and why should we utilize the medium of television since it wouldn't be worth the cost. Dr. Kennedy, who I have always admired though he was a staunch Presbyterian and conservative to boot, had proven that personal evangelism shouldn't be discarded entirely for he witnessed to those attending to him while he was dying. He did recognize that television had potential to reach a GLOBAL audience and it was through that medium that his ministry was established in 220 countries.

I won't downplay door knocking, because I have felt given where you live, it could still be effective. For instance, in rural communities, people tend to be more open to those around them and not having their vision fixed so they won't attract crime or other problems.

The reality in the inner city where I live would be you would be lucky if someone didn't call 911 or chase you off with dogs and a 45. There would be more possibility of those living in the city of channel surfing and coming across an anointed message of truth than for me to get my foot in the door. The year 2007 is much different than the eighties and early nineties when I would spend my Saturday's canvasing the streets and knocking on doors.

If we are to reach the whole world with this gospel what would be the plan for 2008? Would the souls of the hundreds of thousands of shut-ins be on our hands because the only outlet presented to them as far as religious broadcasting would by Jan and Paul Crouch or some other ministry that doesn't present what we hold as TRUTH?

If we believed in the plan of salvation than wouldn't it be our responsibility to utilize every tool available to ensure that the commission that was given to us would be fulfilled?

What troubles me greatly is potentially losing the opportunity to reach those that we cannot see or reach because of their circumstances of life.

You must be confused I know NO such thing the guy was a Presbyterian(good grief) and I passed his church many times it wasn't a great mega church. There are many churches in South Florida bigger than his.

That's just what he does for fun. He isn't as ornery as he pretends to be. He knows that to discard proven effective ideas and inventions just because they were created by trinitarians would be ridiculous. That would mean he would have to move into a cave somewhere and ride a horse to church on Sundays in order to deliver his weekly sermons.

CBO, you thread and initial posts make good sense - even though I would not be in favor of live church services on TV, nor any propagation of the seed faith junk.

thanks for this thread.

I wasn't propagating any seed faith junk at all. I stand totally opposed to presenting anything but the truth of God's grace, mercy and the plan of salvation. The last thing this world needs is another minister on the airwaves promoting their own agenda and false teaching.
