Is Holiness Still Preached?
We had two visitors from Cameroon, Africa on Sunday, after Church we got to talking to them and they said something interesting that caught my attention.
They said that6 they have been to many Churches in their travels in North America and they said, "holiness doesn't seem to be preached anymore in Churches anymore."
What they were saying is this, they haven't heard many messages on holiness,
or being holy, yet he is the Holy Ghost, and the Bible says, "be ye holy, as I am holy."
Why do you think they came to this conclusion?
Is holiness still preached at your Church?
Has it been replaced by something else?
It is an interesting comment comi9ng from an outsider/visitor.
For the record they did not have suits on but had dress pants, and long white sleeved shirts, but no tie.

From the pulpit, from the altar area, from the pew, from the teacher's desk.
Caught in our church still.

Are we talking "holiness" or "standards"? If it is the latter then I can't imagine what churches they are visiting as I hear it just about everytime I visit a UPC church and defiintely anytime you watch or listen to any major UPC conference or meeting.

They are not UPC but say that in traversing North America and visiting Churches
they no longer hear "Holiness" preached. Period.
I thoiught it was an interesting observation-their words.

Depends on their definition of holiness.

Holiness is Holiness, either it's preached or it isn't.
Be ye Holy, as I am Holy.
Hear any messages on being Holy?

Unfortunetely this is not true. When some people say they don't hear "holiness" preached anymore they do not really mean holiness. They mean standards. There is a big difference and that is why the question is important. We have to know their perception of holiness to know how to evaluate their statement.

Do you hear "Holiness" preached?
As in this is what will make you more Holy, eg. eat more twinkies, don';t spit in the street, etc.
Do you hear it preached as in this will make you Holy.
The Bible does say to "perfect" holiness so having the Holy Ghost alone doesn't just cut it, because face we can't improve on God.

It would be nice if what you are saying were true. However, holiness=dress standards to too many people in Church these days, so they may actually be talking about dress standards.
