Has anyone here ever replaced a rack?

Has anyone here ever replaced a rack on a car? My wagon needs the rack replaced and I am thinking about doing it myself. I have never done it before, but I know the car will have to be aligned afterwards.

Are you talking about the steering rack on the Grand Marquis (I think you had one) or another vehicle?

Front wheel drive or rear wheel drive.

This is a 1984 LTD, that downsized version they came out with in the 80s. I think it was based on the Fairmont platform. It is rear wheel drive.

Should cost you about 150.00. If you don't have an adequate equipment to get the car off the ground you should wait until you have the money to allow a trusted shop to do it.

I have everything I need to get the car off the ground and safely supported. I also know I will need to use a tie rod separator to get the tie rods off the car. It's the actual rack I am not sure on. Do you know if it takes special tools? I replaced a power steering hose once on a car and ended up having to buy a foot type socket to get the job done. I was hoping someone from here has replaced one of these before and could offer some tips.
