What's your understanding on Titus 2:10

Titus 2:10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

Specifically : that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

I am doing some research and studying of the scriptures and wanted to know what yalls understanding of this verse is?

I think it means to honor the teaching of scripture, so that people can see, by observing your life, the transforming power of the gospel.

Re: What's your understanding on Titus 2:10

That is part of what Titus was to teach concerning slaves, that they were to be obedient and well-pleasing in all things, not "answering again" ie no back talking. They were not to be embezzling or stealing or appropriating for themselves from their masters but were to demonstrate they were totally faithful and trustworthy in all things. This would "adorn the teaching of God in all things", that is, it would adorn or beautify or glorify the doctrine of God (the Christian Way, the Gospel) in every area of their life.

Its about being personally above reproach in order to eliminate any possible reproach being brought on the Gospel.

Re: What's your understanding on Titus 2:10

Would you say this also applies to us all? And if so, Could this also be the adornment we are to put on as in

1 Peter 3:3-4, Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
and

I Tim 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

In Peter and Timothy, the adornment is an adornment of the woman. But in Titus, it is an adornment of the doctrine of God. So there is a difference in what is being adorned. On one hand, women are to decorate themselves with godliness, as well as modest apparel, etc. On the other hand, the doctrine of God is to be adorned with our faithful behavior.

Of course, the principles apply to all of us. We should all be adorned with godliness, and modest in appearance. And we should all be faithful in all things, especially things committed to our trust, which will bring glory to the Gospel.
