I have a testimony

Many many years ago I traveled with Andrew (one of our sons) by bus to an area of the Amazon jungle. I had read a book written by trinity missionary telling of growing up in the jungle. After reading that book I received a great burden for that area.... however at that time it would take around 5 days by bus to get there...I told my husband about the burden and he said, get one of the kids and make a tip there...
I knew no one even near that area. However the burden was so great. We might have little money today but back then we had no money...so I knew I would have to arrive in an unknown village, make friends then ask someone if I could hang our hammocks on their porch or in their house while we visited that place....

Arriving there at the edge of the jungle we found that 2 Indian tribes were at war with each other...they were camped out on the grounds of what you would call the "city square" waiting to talk with government men that had come from our capital to try to settle their dispute. These were not friendly Indians by no means however since I was so different they took a liking to me. Not all of them spoke Portuguese so I could mainly speak to the chief and a few others. (Before my visit was over I became friends with both tribes)

While warriors from both tribes pounded on war drums and I watched as mostly naked painted Indians came with messages to both sides...my thoughts went to the Prince of Peace...oh if they only knew Him....

Since I was so white, combed my hair much different than the people, had a little dark boy with me (adopted son) needless to say people wondered what world I had dropped out of!

We visited with both the Indians and the Brazilian people and I feel in love with them all. Before my trip was over I had closed a deal on a little mud hut that I would buy and a big piece of land into the jungle...(Yes, I traveled to the jungle with strange men and hung my hammock to sleep at night among the trees of the jungle.) I loved the jungle land, the snakes and spiders and monkeys and all.

My heart was overwhelmed to be among a people that Christ died for yet there was no true witness.

Someday she is coming back for she bought land they were saying among themselves.

The day I was to leave back in the village I stood on a little wooden bridge and watched two Indians stark naked sailing down the river...I couldn't contain my tears.... (Tears is the language heaven understands)

On that trip I had stood on the "city square" and told those that spoke Portuguese about a living God.... I got together people under a tree and got my flannel graph out and told them Bible story...I told the jungle people that I met along the way why I was there.

That burden never left me...as years passed I would often go back and promise that one day a messenger would come to live among them and finish telling them "the Story."

Today one of our adopted sons is that messenger.... he has been there for several years now and has 7 churches among those lost and forgotten people.... He tells me every once in a while he meets someone that asks him, if his mother that white woman that came long ago and visited them?

There are many places in our world today that have no messenger ...no voice to proclaim God's word.

Could it be you that God is calling to some foreign field?

Jude 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22 And of some have compassion , making a difference : 23 And others save with fear, pulling [them] out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
