Yes, Thad... As far as work goes, this is an extremely difficult area to live in unless you are into factory work or healthcare. Neither of us are into either...and it is very discouraging sometimes in that area....
WP has been out of work since January and has had trouble finding a job to the point where he's overtired of it... I've had to take a job again....I am not fond of the job at all, though it has gotten better with a raise and I've gotten more used to it.
We're at the point where we're almost completely caught up on our most dire financial obligations. Were it not for loved ones we would have had our our utilities and telephone turned of and possibly lost our home, but that has not happened.
The consideration was to move closer to home, though not in the New Orleans area... Though neither of us have been guaranteed a job anywhere back in LA, the job market is much better and we'd be closer to family.
The downside of moving back to LA is that the COL is a whole lot higher than what we have here, we would have to rent (paying more than our mortgage here) for a while before we were able to buy a house and there is a lot of crime.
Additionally, we do not know any of the churches in the areas we have looked at... Just because there are 20 churches in driving distance from the area does not mean we'd be content at any of them. Here we have finally found a church that our entire family loves and where our son is flourishing greatly.
Another situation to consider....though my husband has found a school around the Baton Rouge area that has everything he wants/needs to be prepared to do the type of work he wants to do, he is already in a good school here with only about a year to go before he finishes... Closer toward the end he will have an internship where, chances are, they will keep him as a a permanent employee once they get to know his work. Though at that time he will not have all the certifications he wants, he will have a job doing what he wants to do and can work on his other certifications on the side. I know that there are many employers out there in IT that will help an employee in getting their certifications, too... because it is a benefit to them...
Bet you weren't asking for a book when you asked that! lol...
