Ebola: Why Won't They Close Travel?

What is the compelling reason that the President won't close travel to and from West Africa?

I've been asking myself the very same question. One would think that this would open a significant amount of liability for the airlines.

I've come to accept that this Administration is absolutely incompetent.

The CDC said that to do so would significantly stymie the efforts to help the western african nations deal with the disease.

The CDC has also stated that it is in our best interest to respond to what is happening in West Africa.

The CDC says that Ebola is not airborne, making it not significantly beneficial to anyone to halt air travel to and from any nation.

I don't have the internet links, but I remember the news conference I watched.

The flu is a much greater threat than Ebola.

They can't charter planes and/or have air-drops?

How does this have anything to do with commercial airlines servicing non-essential travelers?

Who would want to use the toilet on a plane after an asymptomatic person or person from an Ebola affected country used the very same facility? It's still potentially dangerous.

I agree that the flue is a much greater threat to the continental US than Ebola as it might relate to numbers. However, Ebola is no joke. To be reckless with Ebola is irresponsible in my opinion... even if it ultimately only kills one American.

I don't entirely trust everything the CDC tells us. Part of the CDC's mission is to prevent panic... even in potentially dire circumstances.

Don't trust everything the CDC says. They've been proven to have lied, and oh by the way, the CDC's handling of the first case of Ebola was absolutely atrocious and put far too many people in harms way down in Dallas. They allowed a woman with a low grade fever, whom they knew was in constant contact with patient zero, board a plane and put more lives at risk. I trust the CDC less than obama, which means I don't at all.

There are ways to limit travel which will allow medical supplies and personnel, while preventing people with Ebola from getting on a plane. The CDC isn't the organization to try and figure this out.

Our response doesn't mean we should leave ourselves vulnerable for an epidemic here in the US. We can walk and chew gum at the same time.

The CDC is either lying or is ignorant about Ebola mutating into an airborne disease. Leading scientists who have studied this strain of Ebola from the beginning say it WILL happen. Again, the CDC does not always tell the truth.

"The flu is a much greater threat than Ebola." Partly true, simply because of the numbers. However, in terms of the mortality rates, the flu doesn't come close to Ebola.

All that is happening seems to be pointing in that direction.

Because two nurses have contracted the disease, and none of the family members of Eric Duncan have contracted it yet, it does make you wonder exactly how this disease is being transmitted.

And WHY the CDC would allow this nurse to fly while being monitored for Ebola? Ridiculous!
