Not sure if many remember this. This was the first IRS scandal, which happened during the 2012 Presidential Election.
The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) had its donor list and tax return feloniously leaked from the IRS to a left-wing blogger who then leaked it to NOM's rival, the Human Rights Campaign.
Interestingly enough, the same month this was leaked, HRC's President was tapped by obama to be the national co-chairman for his re-election campaign.
Shocker, right? Amazing what access to the President will get you.
NOM asked the Just-Us Dept to do its job and prosecute this felony. Of course, Eric Holder wouldn't, because he's a political hack who cares nothing about justice or upholding the law.
So NOM filed a civil suit. At first, the government issued its standard, "We've done nothing wrong" defense. The IRS even accused NOM of leaking it themselves.
Fortunately, NOM was able to un-redact the emails posted on HRC's website, which proved that the documents did in fact come from the IRS. Someone there committed a felony and leaked it to this blogger.
Today, over two years after the crime was committed, the IRS admitted wrongdoing and agreed to pay $50,000 to NOM. Unfortunately, the $50,000 is just for damages incurred, and not for any punitive damages, because the blogger pleaded the Fifth.
Good to see NOM win this. This won't be the last time the IRS is caught lying and is forced to admit wrongdoing. Give Lois Lerner immunity in exchange for every detail, email, meeting and individual she met with and received orders or "suggestions" from about the non-profit groups.
Nixon was ran from office for much less than what this current admin has done.
