They Felt Good Eyes
This is a poem called They Felt Good Eyes Upon Them. It tells of some of the anguish that parents of a prodigal go through. It was written by Ruth Graham who also had to go through the pain of waiting for a prodigal to return home.
They Felt Good Eyes Upon Them
They felt good eyes upon them
and shrank within --undone;
good parents have good children,
and they --a wandering one.
The good folk never meant
to act smug or condemn,
but having prodigals
just "wasn't done" with them.
Remind them gently, Lord,
how You
have trouble with Your children,
too.
