Acts 2:38

Hi,
I'm new so this has probably been talked to pieces, so please forgive.

I was baptized in the Name of Jesus 37 years ago, but not until recently have I been convinced, convicted, consomething on it's absolute neccesity to salvation. But, there it is, all the same.

However, I don't believe the dress standards are a part of salvation...just thought I'd throw that out there to really mix things up!

I was baptized in a UPC church and attended several in the past. My last oneness pastor was/is a Yadon...I'm sure that name is familiar to UPC goers.
Love that family!

I now attend a trinity pentecostal church (though I do NOT believe in any trinity doctrine)...it's a Foursquare church and ironically (or not) it was in a Foursquare tent revival I recieved the baptisim of the Holy Ghost 40 years ago.

So, I'm wondering about others opinions on this subject: Surely if Jesus said those who believe and are baptized will be saved, He meant it...this is what is playing over and over in my spirit.

Any thoughts?

Matthew 16:16 for the win.

Actually there is a real interest on this board about the hidden history of the UPCI. When the two groups merged the smaller of the two groups the PCI (Pentecostal Church Incorporated) for the most part believed you were saved at repentance. The Yadens were of that branch. The first General Superintendent Howard Goss taught folks were saved at repentance.

There is a lot of information on here if you type in the keyword PCI or Howard Goss or CH Yaden or WT Witherspoon or others who were on the losing side of the debate.

First off, welcome to AFF. There are things that are essential and then there are things that aren't. The key is to follow what the Bible says because us men and women can distort it on purpose and by mistake. I believe baptism is an outward sign of the inner faith.

Well, that scripture where Jesus says "But, I never knew you." really bothers me. Repent, be baptised by water, but never know him? That's what I'm currently struggling with.

Re: Acts 2:38

It matters little what various groups teach about being born again. The real test is what did the Apostles teach? The first sermon ever preached in the New Testament Church second chapter of Acts was the foundation.

Seeking souls asked what they MUST DO. Peter and the rest of the apostles had a sure word.

Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

Odd that ministers of today would say something different.

There is many, I am affraid, that will hear that. I grew up hearing that said verse was talking about those that went charismatic. Now I am wondering if that verse is reserved for the religious and pious ones.

The underlined portion....Acts 2 :38 was not the original "message" the message was the original message. Acts 2:38 was a response to that message. It wasn't the "seeking sous" that asked what shall we do. It was saved folk that asked, "now what"

So, what does "repent" really mean?
