Here is a link to Dan Scott's sermon this past Sunday based off of the 137th chapter of Psalms. He speaks of adjusting to a new world and new worship styles, etc. Fast forward about 1/3 to get to the sermon.

I'm posting this here because I thought of our traditional Apostolic ways, when he talked about the refusal of some to adapt to a new culture and time.

How many people have got mad and left the church,
and how many people have waged telephone campaigns,
and how many people have crucified the pastor,
and how many family feuds and church splits
have been over the music in the church?

Do we strive for our own comfort at the price of our children's souls?

I remember last year one time when one of the leaders of the organization with which my pastor is affiliated was speaking at the midweek meeting at our church. One older member asked him about what we could do about the music. He basically told her that we older folks have had our day and to leave that up to the younger folks. I'm not sure she was happy with his answer.

Some of that new culture/time is just worldliness repackaged as spiritual.

That doesn't justify gansta rap style music to glorify God or head bangers can now bang there heads on the alter.

As long as the lyrics aren't objectionable.... where do you find a particular style of music condemned in the Bible? Or a particular style that is designated as okay, while others aren't?

I don't like rap *at all*, but if someone does, it's none of my business as long as the words aren't disgusting. Most people aren't going to play it in church, though, because the portion of the audience who would like it is usually going to be extremely small.

Head-banging, though - love that.

We have a whole genre of Christian worship rap music.

It is called Christian Rap

or just

........ for short.

Just Kidding.

I think any kind of music, even rap or even classical, can be used for communicating the Gospel.
