Here's My Definition of "Apostolic Identity."
Lee Grady (Charisma Magazine's Editor) is right.
Times are changing - in a BIG way.
I believe this generation is tired of clothesline religion, and they're leaving it in droves.
Pentecostalism is shedding Wesleyan Holiness theology, and Apostolics are shedding Pentecostalism.
Apostolics are de-emphasizing the power of Pentecost at the same time Pentecostalism is spreading like wildfire.
Weirdness.

Re: Here's My Definition of our new Apostolic Iden
It's confusing, and hard to keep up with our new labels.

Apostolics are those people who are now embarrassed to call themselves Pentecostal because "Pentecostal" isn't legalistic enough for them any more.
I mean, hey, EVERYBODY claims to be Pentecostal nowadays! And this global outpouring of the baptism of the Holy Ghost is not real revival because most of these 1 billion people plus who have spoken in tongues do not follow legalistic, 19th century standards.

Now really, these are 19th century and early 20th century standards. We're only out of date by about 60-some years.

Re: Here's My Definition of "Apostolic Identity."
We are a movement in decline. Our young people are finding new ways to express their faith that have nothing to do with looks and ecclesiastic politics. They are searching for every door labeled "EXIT" they can find.
I am beginning to think God has rejected our movement in favor for a people that are hungry for Him in the here and now. I believe God is sick of our love for pet, extrabiblical doctrine. I think He is moving to a people that love HIM more than they love those old doctrines.

Dude, that's not my claim.
That's what the encyclopedia of Christianity claims.

Sorry, I'll go change it to 19th century.
Thanks.

Re: Here's My Definition of "Apostolic Identity."
Ed, I think that you are right, but I would say that some people are doing this for a purpose and not 'just' because. I think that for a long time the church has preached about the baptism of the HG as a end point (for salvation). That is not the reality of course, but often times the perception. Because of this when people see that this teaching is not correct they are not sure how to emphasize or demphasize the HG baptism. I think that for many I know that are Pentecostals by experience have turned it into a lifestyle and not a fad. If something is a lifestyle it is there everyday, but for some fanatics it is only there when it is needed. Like praying really loud only when people are around.
