Bell Towers
Recently we moved our home business office next door into a small house we had previously rented out.
One of the benefits to the added space is the homeschool has moved over as well.
To give an added touch I built a cupola and installed a working antique bell...
Now if I could just convince my wife to toll the bell every hour on the hour...
Installing the copper

Re: Bell Towers
It would be funny if you made your wife wear a hunchback suit costume while she rung the bell............

LOL!
I did fix it so the bell can be tolled from inside. It is quite loud and almost competes with the Lutheran church bells which are 2 blocks away.

Re: Bell Towers
Where did you get the bell?
I don't know anyone who has a bell on their roof!!!! Is this an Amish thing?
It looks great! I like the copper. You can blind a few birds with that when the sun is out.

I got the stamped 1886 bell at an antique shop.
Remember we don't live in the house. Think one room "schoolhouse". The Amish and Mennonites do a similar thing on their one-room schools.
The copper starts out shiny then browns and will patina greenish in about 15 to 20 years. This cupola matches the one I put on the carriage house (garage) about ten years ago. It is 12" taller and has vents but no bell.
Here you can see it in last years ice storm.
