"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Ok this is the part that got me...

Other Confederate widows are still living, but they don't want any publicity, Martha Boltz of the United Daughters of the Confederacy said Tuesday

Re: Civil War Soldier's Widow Dies

I know there were some young boys in the Civil War. This ladies husband would have been one of them. I know of Johnny Clem who was born in 1851 and he would have only been 10 when the war broke out. That would mean this man would only have been 13. So he would have been between 13 and 17 during the war.

Sorry to sound so skeptical but I find it hard to believe that there could possibly be many more widows around.

Re: Civil War Soldier's Widow Dies

god bless the widows, there were many boys in there teens that fought on the souths side during the war, and many boys and teens were drummers for both sides, the bullets dont show any prejudice, they killed all, too sad, dt
