I don't know about Monday morning depression, but if my little town is anything to go by, I am sure there are a lot of pastor's that if it weren't for being filled with the Holy Ghost would suffer depression. And maybe some that are. I guess that's why pastor's spend so much time in prayer. Wouldn't you think so having to put up with some of us? Plus all the spirits they have to deal with. THANK YOU JESUS FOR PASTOR'S THAT FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH.

I think it's a little short sighted to call it Pastoral Depression. Any number of people of various job titles might experience this as well

I certainly did! There is nothing like the feeling of preaching an anointed word and having the congregation connect with you! You don't want it to stop!

Personally, I don't remember ever experiencing "depression" on Monday mornings. After great Sunday services, I was usually still on a high Monday.

Pastoring is like anything else in life, there are seasons.

There were seasons when things were going great, the church was growing, people were on fire, even Bible studies were powerfully anointed.

Then, there were seasons that people were fighting amongst themselves, services were flat, there was a general angst, people were leaving the church, etc.

But, if you want to know how far this goes back, just go to the book of Exodus!

Sometimes Moses was so passionate about "pastoring" that he stood between God and the people. Other times, he was ready to run them all over a cliff!

Sometimes David sang anointed songs, and the people rallied around him, and other times, everyone around him was in debt, discontented, and discouraged, and he said "I will SURELY die by the hand of Saul"

Sometimes Elijah called down fire from heaven, and the very next day he prayed for God to kill him.

And the list goes on.........it's a little thing called "human nature"!

And, to carry it a bit further........I don't pastor any more. But, I manage anywhere between 15 and 300 people, depending on how many contractors I have on site at any given time.

SOmetimes, things are great, jobs are progressing, people like each other, things couldn't be better. And, sometimes people are arguing, jobs aren't getting done, there is tension........and sometimes these two extremes happen in the same day!

Thanks for your response, Michael. I never thought to compare Moses, Elijah, and David and their ups and downs with God's people with NT pastors.

My pastor would agree with you about feeling high under the anointing of the Spirit. There is fulness of joy in the presence of the Lord and pleasures for evermore.

The only way I can describe it (with Eddie) is such a rush of adreneline (sp.) that sometimes he will crash on Sunday nights. It's not despression, just a huge coming "down", and trust me, he's not an emotional screamo type. It's just all that prayer and study and prayer and study and prayer and study, and then it's over. It used to freak me out because by Sunday nights, I would be so excited and he would just want to come home and crash on the couch for a few hours. So I've learned to let him have his space. By Mondays though, he's up at the church by 6 or 6:30 AM ready to go again.
