What's the Current Preacher's Car?

I was reminiscing with some family members this past week-end, and we remembered our father having a "preacher's" car in the late 70's and 80's, which was the Lincoln Town Car.

Somehow, it was a luxury car that was acceptable! If you had a Cadillac, you would be putting yourself higher than your members. I know it didn't make any sense, but that was the way it was!

Which automobile is currently the trend among preachers? Or is there a "preacher's" car anymore?

Re: What's the Current Preacher's Car?

Last time I drove thru the parking lot at WEC in St Louis I saw quite a few BMW's a couple Mercedes and some Caddy's.

My pastor drives a Chysler Town and Country van with over 100 K miles. With three little kids it works for him.

I drive a Geo Prizm with 215 K miles.

We really splurge on cars here.

Re: What's the Current Preacher's Car?

In my childhood our UPC church was small and made up mostly of poor military members stationed in our town. Our pastor usually drove something like a Chevrolet Impala or Caprice. Pretty new as I recall but not extravagant.

My pastor when I was a teen in the early / mid 70's drove a Lincoln Town Car. My first time to ride in one and I loved it. His wife was an author and school teacher though so a lot of what they had was due to her income being there in addition to his at the church.

My current pastor, though not UPC, drives a minivan. He may have luxury car at home but I have never seen him in it and I have seen him about town several times over the years. Of course now that he has a new much younger wife he may be driving a Lexus convertible!!! LOL!!!

If they are driving a luxury car..I'd guess Lexus or Beemers would be the car of choice today.

Many are driving the regular old Chevrolet.

After selling new cars for fifteen years I doubt i will ever buy new again.

The depreciation rate on a new car is probablly the greatest expense any of us suffer.

Lets see... we have one of our pastors drives one of the itty bitty Ford cars.. dont remember what its called.. Not because he has to but because he wants to.... we have another one of our pastors drives a Suburban... another a Lexus... and about 8 of our staff pastors drive Trucks... 1 rides a really nice motorcycle... so we have a mix... aint no one higher than no one here... we have hummers... caddys... vans... suv's you name it you can find it in our parking lot... but we have from Drs, Attnys... Preachers... Retired preachers... day care workers... to the unemployed... we are not biased around here... come one come all ...

If I said what my pastor drove it would probably ruin my anonymity. Suffice it to say, it is the least of the cars in the church parking lot.

Pontiac Grand Prix.

I don't know what "The Car" is these days amongst preachers. I do know a certain uber conservative UPC preacher not far from here that has always driven gold Mercedes and gold Lexus cars to his luxurious home in a posh gated community. The per capita income in his town is $30,000. He's also one of the senior leaders of the UPC and highly regarded, although not by me.

I drive a Nissan Altima.

Re: What's the Current Preacher's Car?

In our service Sunday we had several of our pastors (daughter works) the only pastor that has a car is Brother Alvear. His car is a small chevy...and we are getting the car also a chevy for a pastor that helps us (it is very old) right now they are working on it...

Not many of our members in the northeast have cars...

In the south the people are more blessed...the northeast is very poor....
