The drive in the country was beautiful! We started out in cow country, and ended up crossing horse country as we neared Cashel. It's interesting to see the landscape change. In cow country, the fields and roadways are all lined with low stone walls. Or hedges in some places instead of stone. But in horse country, the stone walls were taller. Of course there were tall wire fences as well, but the ancient stone walls are still in place.

The landscape was definitely much richer in horse country. The newer houses were larger, more elegant...the fencelines were precise...the driveway entrances much more regal.

I like this house!

I'll bet! I wish I would have taken more pictures! There were so many old houses and country estates...but we almost always had somebody on our tail, and no place to pull over. Those roads give new meaning to the word narrow!

There are very few 'Motorways' here. It's what we would call a freeway here in the States. The majority of travel is done on very small single lane highways. And even those are scary! With all the hedges, you just never know when someone will pull out of their driveway. Even scarier are the regular roads. We travelled across several narrow bridges that could only accomodate one car at a time!

I learned that 'No Overtaking' means no passing.

And that 'Acute Bends' means sharp curves.

You don't know how many times I've gone to the wrong side of the car to get in the passenger side!

This is Killkenny (Cill Chainnigh) Castle. As with most castles here, it was first erected in the 1100's, and continually added to through the years. This is a U-shaped castle with this first pic being the North side, with its grounds facing North.

And this is the South side, with it's beautiful flower garden.

Yeppers, and you get to see John Wayne drag Maureen O'Hara through real sheep dung! My husband said he watches that movie when he needs to get his priorities straightened out.

I'm like, "Go ahead. Make my day, baby. Are you tired of living or what?"
