"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

My first pastor was orignally Elder F.V. Shoemake and then when he retired it was Pastor Jimmy Shoemake (now elder shoemake). They were both awesome pastors. Neither of them were "Clothesline" preachers and the congregation reflected that (in a good way) Diversity . I understand that Jon is the exact opposite of what they were, which is interesting to me....never would of expected that of him. Anyway still great memories of growing up there!

Dress seemed pretty conservative ... at First Church.
I enjoyed the cultural diversity at the church ... very diverse ... Caucasians, Asians, African-Americans, Hispanics ...
Song service was done bi-lingually.
Sunday night seemed lightly attended.

AWESOME! I can't tell you how many hours I spent going out knocking on door's inviting folks (kids mainly) to ride our many church buses to Sunday School! Dressed as a clown once and they didn't have clown makeup, so I improvised with lipstick and could not get rid of the giant lips I had drawn on my face after the fact!!! Once they painted all the buses with different theme's, and the one I worked with was "the flaming chariot" complete with flames painted all down the side of the bus!! We rocked! I have also seen pic's of their new sanctuary and it is beautiful!!!

Sunday night service seems to be on a respirator throughout most of Pentecost.
PM incoming.

Sorry bro ... just in the area briefly ... less than 2 days.
Maybe we can find a way to hook up soon.
Her best friend lives in San Jose ... her and her husband attend First Church San Jose ... brother Shoemake's.
We worshiped there that Sunday night and took the pics on Monday ...

I was already getting ready to respond to your first post about visiting the San Jose church when you posted this. My comment was going to be, that must have been interesting for you!! Who is Cassandras best friend? I was there for 5 years, I might know her.
The photographer is amazing! Those are BE-OO-TI-FUL pics!
