I think second and even third generations may be affected CC1. A lot of people really admired and respected the Glass's. I guess that is why it was such a big shock. I will never get that picture out of my mind of them walking to that meeting in Lufkin. They didn't look any different, I thought surely if they had done the things they were accused of it would somehow show I guess.

The one thing I remember during all of this was Bro Hosch asking us to all Pray for all involved.
It was a very sad time and still is for it to have such a long lasting affect. I believe Bro Hosch's request is still needful in light of the discussions of the linked forum. I will be praying for these hurting people.

These things sound all to familiar, do they not, Sister?
Folks in these abusive situations need the encouragement of those that are knowledgeable about abuse, to get out ASAP!

Serious damage to the UPC reputation in the area, they had had a huge debate with Marvin Hicks sponsored by this church just prior to this junk hitting the fan. Major damage to many, many families. This church was the largest in our district when I was growing up, had many conferences and youth meetings there. Was broken hearted when it all broke, because the church was so visible it was even more damaging. Sad, sad!

I remember that debate was it with Ramsey or Burk?????????????

The Hobbs deal at Lansing is yet ongoing they swapped companions Hobbs took the younger part of the group and moved to Oregon I think? BUt it is my understanding the group even today exist in this disgrace.

I haven't heard anything since they left years ago. I am weary when entire congregations move across the country to relocate. That is very cult like!
The spiritual husband and wife thing was quite odd! I never understood how they justified having physical sex with their spiritual partners! I guess it was swinging for God!

I have talked with several parents that their children swapped and followed Hobbs. For a season they were turning off the lights and touching. Folks got leaving like flies. However the younger crowd were so enamored by Hobbs they stayed many of them. He moved them to Oregon I think.

My father was presbyter of the section that Hobbs church was in. I don't remember all of the details, but dad was just floored when this all went down!
I remember attending that church when I was a child a few times for fellowship meetings. Nothing seemed out of order at the time!
