If white people gathered for a protest after a black man was acquitted of murdering a 17 yr old white boy, would you truly believe they were doing so for other reasons than race?

Ok, another honest question. Black young men are killed by other black men every day. Where are the protests in these cases when those murderers are let off?

My son, who is white, once went with me to an auction we frequented. He was wearing a hoodie pulled up around his head and was looking at items while his hands were in his pockets. He was about 14 at the time and a tall kid.

Some people who had merchandise were watching him and he was making them nervous with his 'demeanor'. While the truth of the matter was that he kept his hands in his pockets so people wouldn't think he was stealing, to others, he looked very suspicious.

I was approached by the auctioneer who asked me to speak to him about his appearance. I told my son about how others saw him and he immediately removed his hood and took his hands out of his pockets...and did this without a negative attitude.

IMO, people had a right to believe my son was up to no good due to his appearance alone. I refused to defend his 'look' by informing the onlookers that he was dressed that way due to culture or 'that's how 14 yr olds dress nowadays...deal with it'.

I believe GZ had a right to suspect TM of being up to no good, I don't care what color either party is.

If the defendant would take the stand, the prosecution would poke a bunch of holes in his story-- but the prosecution's tactics has made it not likely for the defendant to take the stand.

I could be missing something, but can you or someone explain to me what difference it would make if GZ admitted he knew about the SYG law? I'm not sure how knowing or not knowing makes or breaks this case.

This case should never have been wrapped up in a few hours, or even a couple of days of investigating.

I am glad that news media outlets, all across this country, from NBC, BBC, to FOX reported on this and made the general public aware of this tragedy.

JD, if TM had been killed by a 28 yr old black man with the same story to tell, we wouldn't be having this thread on AFF right now, nor would the black community be up in arms over it. Black on black crime happens all the time, yet where are the protests?

In my small town, lots of crime has been taking place lately and we are involved in putting a stop to it. Recently, reports came in about pickup trucks being stolen and used to haul other stolen items. Just yesterday, a woman less than a mile from me stated she saw a pickup truck a block away from her at 2am drive slowly down the street, then stop, back up, and two people jump out and start picking up items out of a yard they then threw into the back of the pickup and drove away.

We are now profiling anyone driving a pickup. Isn't that ok, or should be looking for people driving Caddys and Jags?

Oh, and we are white people in a mostly white neighborhood. There isn't a single black member of the neighborhood watch. The crimes around here are committed by white folks, mostly.

In GZ's case, I wonder if there are black NW members in the area he patrols. Would be interesting to find out how many calls have been made by black NW watch members about young black men looking suspicious, huh?

Fact of the matter-- it does.

He didn't shoot the man because he was black. He shot him because he was on top of him beating the mess out of him and tried to get GZs gun.

He followed him because he was a kid with a hoodie cutting between houses...I'd be suspicious too without having to see the guys skin color
