History:

The Apostolic Assembly of the Faith in Christ Jesus emerged out of the Pentecostal movement that began with the Azusa Street revival in the city of Los Angeles in 1906. Juan Navarro, a participant of that revival, baptized Francisco Llorente in 1912, who later was elected the first Bishop President of the Apostolic Assembly when it formed in 1925. The organization became a California corporation on March 15, 1930.

Throughout the humble beginnings of the Apostolic Assembly, our tenacious yet caring leaders ministered primarily to the spiritual needs of a growing number of Spanish speaking people who flooded into this country looking for a better life for their families. Since then, we have made great strides in not only providing ministry to this Missionary generation and its subsequent generations, but we have broken the cultural barrier and have provided bilingual ministry to subsequent Boomer and Buster generations as well. We are confident that the Apostolic Assembly will continue to grow, in both financial strength and in membership in the years to come. Because the moral fabric of our society continues to weaken, the church stands willing to face the challenges of meeting the spiritual needs of hurting people around the world.

During its first eighty years of existence, the Apostolic Assembly has had eight national leaders or "Bishop Presidents" as listed below, with corresponding terms in parenthesis:

Bishop President
FRANCISCO LLORENTE
(1890 -1928)

Makes sense. And perhaps the same can be said about most organizations, unless "new revealation" entered the picture they maintianed the concensus of the majority prior to the new group's formation.

Brings up the question... was Paul writing scripture to maintain cultural practices ?

What I always wondered about those that do not teach the material covering is how they reconcile that every woman that prays or prophesies with her head uncovered AND that if she prays with her head uncovered it's the same as if she were shaven. So if having a woman's head covered is with hair, then would having her head uncovered mean she has her head without hair? In which case it would read, that if she had not hair on her head, it is the same as if she were shaven, and that doesn't seem to make sense to me... I'm sure the issue has been argued a ton, but I have yet to see anyone that can explain this.

GOD BLESS!
Bro. Alex

Alex, like I said it would be nonsensical and redundant.

The better approach for this position would be to say the material veil is the question in 1 Cor 11:4-13 but was strictly cultural and the long hair reference in 11:14-15 transends culture because it involkes nature.

I do understand the desire to read hair into 11:4-13 because it would/could make it a sacred or holy issue. To me that is just not possible.

The mustaches were always part of the culture ... trying to convince them to shave them would have been impossible.

Here in America ... the UPCI was influenced by Victorian Age and the Methodist Holiness movement

BOTH.

From what i've seen its always been okay for the brothers to have a mustache (sp?) but not beards..nor shaved heads either.

From what I've heard UPC men are not allowed mustaches, right?
