Oh, and Marcion is said to have been the first to put together what we would call a Christian "Bible". He omitted, I believe, the entire Old Testament. (Didn't like that God, and thought Jesus came to destroy him.) Had only 11 books: a version of the Gospel of Luke and some of Paul's letters.

Irenaeus later added to God's Word, thinking that there just had to be four gospels, seeing as how there were four winds and four corners of the earth. Yeah, that makes sense. And since the powers that be decided Marcion was a heretic (a.k.a. "doesn't think like we do"), they figured it was OK to modify his Bible. (Of course, some people later called Irenaeus a heretic, but what're ya gonna do? Have to cut and run, some time! )

Lol. At some point, Spirit just kind of took over there for me, I guess. I can compare the fruit of I John to The Lord of the Rings, or any other book, over time if necessary. Surely all the Books of all the accepted canons were thoughtfully compiled, and should contain basic truths--after all, we aren't talking rocket science, but human interactions, mostly. There are no big secrets, imo.

You mean all the books ever purported to belong in the Bible? Every one that anyone has claimed to be inspired and infallible? Over 20 gospels, epistles of Barnabas, Clement, and others (and at least one more from Paul that didn't make it into any widely used canon today), and some other "apocolypses" besides John's Revelation.

But a lot of books "contain basic truths". Which ones were given to humanity by God Himself?

They do contain "basic truths", have to admit.
