As stated earlier in this thread....
Mark is currently assisting at Life Song in Stockton, CA. This church is pastored by James Byrd. James was born and raised in Stockton. Life Song (under a different name) was formerly a satellite (daughter work) of CLC . In 2001, James went autonomous and is no longer UPC.
DS left CLC to semi-retire. He teaches at UGST. He wanted to devote more time to writing and further study. One of the foremost theological libraries is located in the St. Louis area. Both he and his wife were raised in and around that area. He also travels teaching around the country. Currently he has not been traveling so much due to a medical condition with his wife. They currently attend "The Sanctuary" pastored by Scott Graham. This is not hearsay - straight from his mouth to my ears.
MS left CLC and was supposed to start a Home Missions work in the St. Louis area. He moved lock-stock-and-barrel from CA and was back within six months to assist at Life Song. His parents had no intentions of attending his church in MO on a regular basis - or helping him start the church. Again, this is not hearsay - straight from MS's mouth to my ears. I'm not sure that he really ever started anything in MO.

I know this is an ancient topic and hasn't been touched in years, but I'm popping it back up because Mark Segraves is starting a church on the far southeastern side of Phoenix in September 2015.

I have to tell you I am NOT related to these guys and absolutely NOT doing promotion for them. They have no idea I exist. How I found the church was that I was surfing the map of church plants of an outfit called "Association of Related Churches" this morning. I was clicking on church plants in the Phoenix area and it was like, "Mark Segraves? I KNOW that name..." I did some digging and yep, it's the same Mark Segraves.

SR, thanks for sharing this update. I glanced over his "launch plan" and looks very well thought out. I am wondering if there is a nucleus of people already there wanting him to come that he will have to start with. I also wonder if Life Song is sponsoring his start up or any other church. EDIT: I just read his story about the church and see where Life Song gave them $50,000 as well as ARC.
He will be not too terribly far from where Phillip Goldbsberry pastors Christ Life Church in Tempe that was started by another pastor with deep UPC roots, Jim Roam, before he passed away.

It only takes two believers and a Bible to start a Biblical church (and they can get the Bible later, actually). Now if you want a fancy, successful synagogue, well... you gotta shell out some dough.

There is more than one way to do something and I certainly don't begrudge anybody who has the ability to plan and raise money to start off not flat broke while trying to build a church.
People get too hung up on church government issues thinking things can only be done one way. As I have said before I think the New Testament is puirposefully vague on this subject because God wanted to allow each generation / culture to adapt for what would work for them.

Mark and Jeff are graceful and gifted leaders. When I want to know something about them, I contact them directly.
Otherwise, it sure is a long walk around the barn !!

Not really. The links to Mark's blog and church site, etc shared here gave plenty of information about what he is up to. If I called every stranger that was doing something I was interested in I would spend a lot of time on the phone with awkward telephone calls.
One can be curious as to what is going on in a situation and seek information from those that know without direct contact and there is nothing wrong with that.

Right. It'll be interesting to see how they're doing in 5 years. These kind of churches are a dime a dozen around this area and many don't last long.
LifeChurch.tv (HQ'd in OK) tried starting a couple churches here years ago. They moved over 100 people here (50 paid staff members for each site). Both churches closed within a year or two.
