I've never received an honorary degree, so I guess I'm no expert on the process.
Something like that, yes. By definition, it is a way of honoring someone who a university feels worthy of honor. Ideally, they are not bestowed lightly. In fact, many more "earned" degrees are typically issued than honorary degrees, by any given institution in any given year.

And what degrees are we talking about? We know how he earned a degree at ABI. Sure, honorary degrees from Princeton, Yale, Cambridge -- those are quite a high honor. Neither are they synonymous with an actual Ph.D though. Most that receive honorary doctorates also have a doctorate. Ravi Zacharias for example. He has several honorary doctorates, on top of his own doctorate and work in the field of apologetics.
Good questions Jeffrey. I haven't studied either field myself. I know he did study at Trinity Dublin College as well in paleography. Google, maybe?

I see your point. There could be more to this story though that we, so far removed here, may not know or understand. I don't really care to make a big deal about Bro Treece and his credentials. If I am going to die on a hill it will be over Scripture.

Oh.... you were talking about MDT. We've since moved on to LS the past 50 posts! lol

I'm not willing to die on any of these hills either. I think it's worth discussing though. Growing up in this fellowship, I've noticed this so often. It's dishonest. We have smart enough guys to put in the work, work exclusive in academics to provide a better scholastic future for Pentecostalism. No pretending.

Ah. I have no idea about him. I agree with you though.

Im not saying anyone needs to create a distinction in translations according to Oneness or Trinity.

Im saying, as I already said, Trinitarians agree Heb 1:8 can be translated differently so that it does not support the Deity of the Son...coming from Trinitarian based Translations. I doubt there is any translation that is completely void of all bias.

Heb 1:8, as it is, is a powerful verse for the Deity of the Son

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Prax, are you saying there is 100% uniformity among scholars (especially scholars that are Trinitarian) on this verse? I'd be surprised. When you say "Trinitarians translate this as ..." it sounds like they are one person or group, when in reality "they" aren't monolithic at all.

They do or don't want the verse to support the Son's deity? Their decision for interpretation is based on that alone?

Exactly, if you want to see some trinitarians foaming at the mouth damning all oneness to burn in hell forever (liberals, UC's-doesn't matter) go to CARM forums and click on "oneness".

I'm all for mixed fellowship among people who seek God and seek to live godly, but there are many on the other side of the fence who would rather die before fellowshipping a oneness person.

It does get old when folks come on here attacking oneness people, which thinking trinitarians are some great peace makers. **NEWSFLASH- oneness people didn't leave the AoG, they were kicked out.

I have been on both sides of the fence and guess what 90% of the time the problem is with the Oneness people. Can anyone recall an instance where a local college of Trinitarians take over a Oneness service? Yet we hear about it from time to time in a bragging way from Oneness folks.
