I don't believe that there is a suggestion that over 40 kids have had broken bones with no medical treatment.
So, did they have broken bones, and if so, then they were taken to medical facilities outside the compound, right?
I don't know H1, I don't believe all the reports from both sides of the situation. Out of that many kids I would be surprised if there weren't a few broken bones between them. And also according to age and where the broken bones were would tell a lot. But I do now in the documentary I saw last night they had a cemetery for babies only with a privacy fence around it. Outsiders that were family were allowed to attend funerals of adults inside the compound but none of the babies funerals were attended by outsiders. The two women that were interviewed one was a former member and as she put it escaped, and is armed whenever she in on the property. She came back after a month and there were 200 new burials of babies. This was in Arizona at the former compound.
And please let us not forget the reason they are in Texas is because Warren Jeffs had warrants for his arrest out of Utah and Arizona.

In all fairness, if we suggest that people stop having children to prevent the occurance of special needs children, that eliminates so many from ever having children, especially those who are carriers of diseases that are devastating, like muscular dystrophy, hemophilia, Huntington's Chorea, and several more, not to mention those with a history of cancers and heart diseases and diabetes, where it's more likely than not that their offspring will inherit those genes, many of which will make them 'special needs children'.

Fumarase deficiency is extremely rare. Until roughly 18 years ago scientists knew of only thirteen cases worldwide . However, recently twenty additional cases have been documented in the Arizona/Utah border towns of Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah[9] These two towns constitute a closed and controlled community, and were settled in the 1930s by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which is a breakaway sect now unaffiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As such, many of the surrounding communities refer to this disease as "Polygamist's Down's"[10]

What Nina is referring to is what I meant, a lot of the problems these children have are directly tied to consanguinity.
And I do feel in general society as well, if there are known genetic or hereditary issues, people should think long and hard about reproducing.
Warren Jeffs is 53.
He doesn't live in Eldorado though.
He will hopefully be in the Utah State Prison for a long time. There are older men living in Eldorado.
Really? I read something very different hundreds of articles ago. I would hate to have to go find it. Would you have an easier time finding support for your claim?

If it's genetic, how is it preventable?

I ask this because it's a genetic disorder. Ok, so they can stop the inbreeding, which will perhaps make the possibilities smaller, but since they still carry the gene, the only answer is to disallow them having children with anyone, and that includes both the males and females.
Do we really want to suggest this? I mean, this is like suggesting that people who carry the hemophilia or muscular dystrophy gene shouldn't have children because if they don't have children, the incidence of those diseases will go down.
I don't think I want to go there.

I also don't believe everything I hear from both sides, but it's clear that both sides have something to hide. Perhaps only time will tell. I just hope that innocent children aren't injured permanently in the crossfire.

While I agree with you, I say that because I don't have anything wrong with me genetically that I could pass on to my children. It's easy to do on this side of the bench, know what I mean?

Doctors and family members interviewed by New Times say up to 20 children from families in the polygamist community are currently afflicted with the condition that requires full-time attention from caregivers. Victims suffer a range of symptoms, including severe epileptic seizures, inability to walk or even sit upright, severe speech impediments, failure to grow at a normal rate, and tragic physical deformities.
"They are in terrible shape," says Dr. Kirk A. Aleck, director of the Pediatric Neurogenetics Center at St. Joseph's Hospital. Aleck is a geneticist who participated along with Tarby and others in the groundbreaking study of several polygamous families with fumarase deficiency in the late 1990s.
From the Phoenix News as well.
Umm....just for the record in case anyone missed it; this report is not about the children from the Eldorado ranch. Instead it is talking about 20 children out of a population of 8000 polygamist in other states.
Furthermore, although this disease is made manifest; there is also likely to be some kinds of diseases that won't manifest as much as in the general population due to the limited genetic pool.

Woah! We are going to impose our beliefs on who can and can't have children so that we might secure a more perfect race?
The world would have been better without Helen Keller, Abraham Lincoln, Picaso, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Moses?
What of Beethoven, Mozart, Howie Mandel, Sir Isaac Newton, Agatha Christie, Charles Dickens, Alfred Nobel, Aristotle, Theodore Roosevelt, Danny Glover, Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Leonardo Da Vinci, Magic Johnson, Thomas Edison, Winston Churchhill, Donald Sutherland, Michael J. Fox, Stevie Wonder, John Milton, Donald Trump, and Tiger Woods?

Are you aware they dug around the ranch looking for dead bodies and I believe they even dug up the graves that were there? But it didn't produce anything so it wasn't given much press.
