Wow.
But ya know, it would be fun joining a church like that (for a very short while) just to have fun with some of these "rules" and tweak the people who make them.
Like opening the door to one of these people "dispatched to get you" while wearing a Hugh Hefner-style robe, Barry White playing in the background, and your wife calling your name from another room.

God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we're in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. ~Romans 3:24 from The Message

You know, someday I'll maybe send you a PM every time you say what I was thinking. But that could be scary. Even scarier than *what* we're thinking.

Yeah..it take about 15 minutes to get myself disfellowshipped in a cult church like that.

I would'nt walk across the street to even visit a place like that again.

I have been on staff for 16 years at one of the greatest churches in our city.

I love it there..and ther is NONE of the foolishness that is discussed on this thread there.

IF it ever started I'd stoip it in a heartbeat or turn my keys and be gone.

There is a mgmt. technique of subtraction by overmgmt. You can weed out those who don't really want to be at a job by overmananging them, having ridiculous requirements and such. Those who really want the job stay and even move into better positions vacated by those who left.

Sounds like a great opportunity!!

I don't think your definition is best suited to describe those posters.

Going from one UPC church to the next makes you a backslider?

Dropping a consecration is not in line with dropping man-made standards. None of us have ever, at any time, ever walked away from God. THAT relationship has remained in tact and strong enough to weather the storm.

Now you have to ask yourself...IF you still believe these are all backslidden...who's fault would that be? Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Sorry to jump in, but the pivoting point to walking away from God vs. dropping man-made standards is in the eye of the beholder.

Many of these so-called man-made standards are not so man-made some of us believe and this is where leaving a holy lifestyle equates to leaving God.

Aren't there enough standards threads around?

To someone who sees the position of pastor as being beyond reproach, anyone leaving any church (because of rules) is 'backslidden'. Granted, if you leave a church because you feel there are not enough rules, then you are to be commended!
It is a subject that a 100+ pages of arguing will not convince such a person that they are wrong. They are blind.

How thick of a line is there between honoring, submitting to and pretty much obeying a pastor vs. the rules that were stated in the beginning post? Just curious and don't know if this has been mentioned yet.
