For every church you can name that becomes cultic, I just about guarantee you I can name half a dozen that went off the rails doctrinally through compromise.

Let's delve into a little Biblical History, 2 notable churches come to mind. It seems the apostle Paul spent a large amount of his time dealing with 2 spirits present in the 1st Century church. Shall we compare.
Liberal spirit that tolerated sin=Corinthinan Church
Legalistic/Performance Based Church=Galatian Church
In letters to both churches, Paul commended the Corinthian Church as being a Church of Jesus Christ but then proceeded to correct their errors of doctrine and behavior.
In the latter church the same Apostle said that they had departed from the truth, called them fools and proceeded then to correct their errors of belief and doctrine.
If I were to err, I would surely want to lean towards the Corinthian church.
The Apostle Paul did not struggle with liberalism, his main enemy and still today is the spirit of religion that is manifested in legalism and destroys a walk of faith.
