[14] But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
[15] Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
Adam and Noah were both told not to eat a certain kind of food.
Adam was told to eat all fruit but not the eat fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. It had one element in it that the rest did not have -- desire to make one wise. All the trees were good for food and pleasant to the sight. But the forbidden fruit added the desire to make one wise.
Noah was told to eat all meat except meat with blood in it.
The two demands are similar, spiritually.
The "desire to make one wise" appeals to selfishness and carnality and fleshliness. It crowds God out of our lives and lifts self up. The more self is lifted and exalted, the less God can work in us.
Meat with blood in it is meat with its LIFE in it. The life is in the blood. And since meat was required to have its blood shed before Noah could eat of it, we see a message. Natural life (blood) is similar to the picture of self. Self must go in exchange for God's Life, just as we must cast aside the desire to exalt self.
So both forbidden fruit show a message of being forbidden due to hindering God's cause of manifesting in mankind -- SELF PRESERVATION and SELF LOVE.
Seeing the fruit of Life did not have that quality of the desire to make one wise, and it was allowed for Adam, there is a link between the fruit of life and the meat that is shed of its blood.
Christ's blood had to be shed to give us eternal life!
Although the cross did not exist in Adam's day, of course, the purpose of the cross is the same purpose for which God created man. God is meant to manifest in and through mankind. And self hinders that. The work of the cross was meant to remove this hindrance of self-exaltation and its hindering effects against God's manifestation in man, so we could once again be in the place God wanted us in order to do His will through us.
The cross can only work when we deny self!

Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
Something about the issue of the cross is very important to keep in mind. All the truth of the cross is not just to get us out of the earth to go to heaven one day. What did God plan for the earth before sin entered the picture?
The works of the cross are intended to be understood as affecting us by putting us into union with Jesus and all the power and authority he has. And this is meant to be exerted in the world RIGHT NOW. Unless we apply the ideas of our union to Christ's power and authority, and use it in this world now, we render the cross to be far less than its intended purpose, even if it does take us to heaven.

Jesus the moment He was born was in the shadow of the Cross. When He began with His first steps they were steps towards the Cross. When He woke up in the morning and began to stretch and yawn He faced the Cross. After He hung on the Cross the shadow was cast onto us. Not cause we were under sin anymore, but because of the cause of the Cross we are able to stand in the light of the resurrection also.
The Cross casts a shadow under which I live, but out of the shadow of that old Cross the light of the world is shown unto us. Great is our God! The Cross was ugly and beautiful at the sametime. Sin and forgiveness met at one moment and for all the rest of eternity there is Grace to wash away our sins.
Yes, I do live under the shadow of the Cross, yet I am able to stand in the light of the resurrection because of the one on the Cross..in Him is no darkness. The shadow of the Cross follows me not to condemn me, but to remind me that I AM FREE! I AM FREE from sin and death. I AM FREE! This is what true freedom feels like.
Sorry for the rant, but the Cross gets me going!

This is so very true. But we are no longer under the shadow of the cross. We are on the cross like Jesus when we repented, and was baptized in his name and received his spirit.
There is a difference between religious people and christians.
Religious people hang around the cross, christians are on the cross.
Religious people preach half the truth, they believe there is a grey area, christians preach the whole truth and believe its either white or black, there is no grey area. Its either right or wrong. Your either in the church or out of it. Your either on the cross or off.

I think the writer meant the same thing you are saying by being on the cross. People who claim they live in its shadow are actually meaning the same thing as being crucified.

Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
CHRIST and HIM crucified is still the only message that saves souls and joins the body of CHRIST closer together at the same time !

Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
The truth of the cross is the most awesome thing in existence. Its true understanding actually leads us to realize the KINGDOM we are in today and help us understand how to rule and reign with Him now.

Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
What better time to talk about the cross?
I like what one man said. We can talk about Jesus crucified forever, but unless we understand that as to how WE are affected to DO HIS WORK IN THE KINGDOM today, the cross is an incomplete message!
It's not just to get us out of hell. It is to position us in the Kingdom to DO SOMETHING in this world!
