How to establish authority in marriage??

Three words.

Honey, I'm Home!

Articles on such subjects as "The New Birth," will be accepted, whether they teach that the new birth takes place before baptism in water and Spirit, or that the new birth consists of baptism of water and Spirit. - THE PENTECOSTAL HERALD Dec. 1945

Authority was never too much of a problem in my marriage. I'm pretty good at doing what I'm told.

I had to give my wife some "bad news" today, money-wise. Not too bad, just a disappointment, something we were looking forward to didn't come through. When she looked up at me she had tears in her eyes. Way more of a reaction than I had expected. I was confused to say the least.

At this point I should add that I am pretty much deaf when there's a lot of background noise. I can hear the volume of noise but I cannot make out the distinctions and words are mostly lost in the cacaphony. My kids were just coming into the house as my wife and I were talking and I missed everything she was saying.

Long story short; while we were hugging and saying "hello" and after I had delivered the "bad news" she had gone on to tell me some pretty bad news about a friend of hers. That's why she had tears in her eyes. It wasn't until latter as we were getting the kids fed that she brought up her friend again and had to start from scratch because I had missed the whole thing.

I wonder how many misunderstandings we've had that I just obliviously walked away from simply because I had no idea what she had said to me.

These moments happen more often than we know. It is very necessary to state that we didn't hear, or "What I thought was...correct me if I'm wrong..." Clears up misunderstandings before they happen.

Communication is indeed the priority of a healthy relationship.

Blessings, Rhoni

Is it the responsibility of the man to make comments like "I'm the boss"?

Should the woman just deal with it and "submit"?

Obviously these are extremes, but how would one tactfully assert what they believe to be their God-mandated role?
I've found that 2 of my good buddies are very helpful in this regard.

Their names? Mr. Smith...and Mr. Wesson !!

(Just kidding, folks. Please... hold off on the angry responses)

All is fine in the France household.
