Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!
I have to head off to bed. But I'm worried about Pentecost. I'm just an average Joe who works a job and has a family. But we have pastors and evangelists who have far too much time on their hands who spend hours on here arguing over trees.
I'd expect men of God to be men of prayer and study. Men who don't get entrenched in this kind of thing.
But that's just me.

What makes you think they were average? Were does the Bible say they were average? Do you're homework outside of the house church movement.

Search the BAR, back issues for oldest Christian church found. It was in Judea, and it was a house renovated with walls removed, and a pulpit platform in the middle of the room. That is the oldest Christian assembly room to date. The Iran one I think you are referring to was never proven to be a Christian place of meeting. You need to look that up again.

Didn't you just get overly righteous about the Catholic wafers, and Pentecostals not getting the Lord supper right?
You see it is you who is not consistent in this area. You jump up and down over people who drink grape juice and saltines, and you advocate the Catholic Mass of Dec 25th? It's not consistent.

What are you talking about? We don't need to do them. This is what blows my mind! The anti-standard groups blast the holiness crowd, and then fight like gladiators to defend xmas. Too much fun!

EB, just a minor correction--there are quite a few non-Pentecostals who don't do Christmas (and other holidays), as well as liberal "anti-standard groups." There are quite a few conservatives and ULTRA cons who do Christmas with great enthusiasm.
Regardless, your statement doesn't make sense. A person who believes in remaining silent where the Bible is silent and not weighing people down with unnecessary rules is probably going to believe that way about Christmas and other holidays. It's consistent for a liberal to be liberal about holidays.

All this because you don't want to admit that xmas is extra-Biblical, and nonsensical man made entertainment for Churchtarians.

Btw, I agree with you that Christmas is extra-Biblical. I just don't agree that "extra" comprises un- or anti-Biblical. My laptop is extra-biblical. Voting is extra-biblical. Hanging photos of my kids on the wall is extra-biblical.
Just because something isn't mentioned in scripture does not mean it is inherently bad. It doesn't mean that we can't take a worldly, pagan, and/or secular day and give it new, positive meaning for our household.
Furthermore, I don't know of anyone who bows down and worships their tree. Putting one in my house doesn't mean I've turned it into an idol. I pass right by it and never bend a knee. If it's truly an idol, it must be awfully offended when we sing Christian songs right next to it at the piano.

Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!
WHY I do not have a Xmas tree?
The same reason:
I do not make the sign of the cross
sprinkle holy water
use prayer beads
wear ash on my forehead
light candles for the dead
pray to saints
say the rosary
use a confessional
wear my collar backwards
have statue of Mary
encourage young ladies to be Nuns
am not called Father Epley
I AM NOT A CATHOLIC.
Very simple.

It isn't Catholic in origin. It's pagan in origin.
