If one questions the official government line on Lincoln's actions, or questions the historical accuracy of what is portrayed in Roots, then they must be a white supremacist or advocate slavery.

Roots was a book. I dont believe everything I read or see. That being said, how can you sit here and act like there was any good whatsoever in slavery? Let me guess, it wasnt about slavery, it was about states rights? The south's whole economy was built on the backs of slavery that was justified by white supremacy. Lincoln was justified in what he did. You cant be Christian and deny that. Yes Roots was fiction. Slavery being evil and wrong, wasnt.

Lincoln did what he did not out of concern for slaves. You've obviously not done your homework.

On Lincoln, anyone with even the most basic knowledge of the subject knows that Lincoln made it clear his war actions were not to interfere with the institution of slavery , but to "preserve the Union". In fact he endorsed the original 13th Amendment, designed to prevent the slave States from seceding, which guaranteed that slavery where it existed would never be interfered with. Lincoln made it clear that while he personally opposed slavery, he was an avowed white supremacist who would never condone a society where blacks and whites were equal.

Furthermore, Lincoln's opposition to secession was based on the false premise that, as he put it, "no State except Texas has ever been a sovereignty" and that "the union is older than any of the states and in fact created them as states". The truth was, the union was created by the States and any sovereignty the federal Government had came from the states. Lincoln was a servant to powerful bank and industrial interests whose fortunes would be doomed by an independent south with a free trade policy and low tariffs. Anyone in the north who dared question the legality of Lincoln's actions was subject to harassment, imprisonment or exile. Many people were imprisoned without charges for simply questioning the legality of the war, including members of Congress. An arrest warrant was issued for a supreme court justice for speaking out, but was never acted on.
