They would tell us its not possible that a carpenter from Nazarath who lived 2000 years ago could still be alive right now.

We walk by faith not by sight.
So you believe a literal body can be in a coffin and physically be in hell at same time, wow.

That is not what he said.

He believes in soul sleep, then the dead are resurrected for judgement at the consumation of the age.

Pay attention.

How far fetched is that? Not very if you believe in the rapture, when the dead in Christ shall rise first.

Good grief! I almost converted myself to MTD's doctrine just now. It's very convincing.

Ok goctha, that makes a little more sense. So hell is empty right now then. No one goes to hell or heaven when they die, interesting.

Then at judgement a body is created to be cast into hell to be destroyed? Interesting as well.

Well... do you believe in the coming resurrection (hebrew concept) or the immortality of the soul (greek concept)?

I think somewhere along the line both thoughts have been merged, an immortal soul will reunite with a resurrected body.

I'm not sure where I stand. I haven't really considered any of this since I was 17 or 18 yrs old.

Jesus preached to the first fruits of resurrection before He Himself was resurrected.

Well, I don't have it all nailed down. I don't believe in soul sleep for sure. Believe we are already ressurected in Christ. "He that believeth shall never die"

John 11:25-26
King James Version (KJV)
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Re: Hell....just how bad is it?

The lake of fire is where death and hell is cast into, so as the scripture reads it burns day and night for ever and ever.

Since that is a symbolic picture of something far, far, worse, may I make the suggestion that you all make sure you avoid the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.
